Me too. Harry was President when I was born.

He was an honest man with great integrity. Proof of this is the fact that when he left office he was near destitute. He refused to be any corporate payrolls or commercial endorsements believing that would diminish the Office of the Presidency.

Presidents did not receive a pension in those days and the Truman's income consisted of his old Army pension of $112 a month. When they got back to Missouri, they lived in his wife's mother's house. They got by on the Army pension and selling land they inherited. When he wrote his memoirs, it sold well, and their situation improved. In 1958 Congress authorized a pension of $25K per year for former Presidents.

Compare Harry to most of the SOBs that followed him. How do you go into office of modest means and come out a multi-millionaire? Three guesses!

Give 'em Hell, Harry!

(to which he used to respond, "I don't give 'em Hell, I just tell 'em the truth and they think it's Hell")

I find it ironic how so many democrats love jfk but get all worked up over trump being vulgar when jfk was in the WH having parties and telling 19 year old interns to preform sexual acts on other aids while he watched after he used his position of authority to sleep with her.

I graduated college during Carter administration and was one of very few people in my graduating class in my major to get a job. Unemployment was over 10%. Prime rate was 20%. The economy sucked.

Reagan brought stability, job growth, and prosperity for my generation.

People didn't know about it. The media had some restraint back then.

FDR did not like to be photographed in his wheelchair. The White House press corp knew that if they took a pic of FDR in his chair, that would be the LAST photo they took in the White House.

I'm not talking about people liking him in the 60's I'm talking about people liking him now. Democrats talk about Kennedy like he is the second coming. Republicans talk about Reagan the same way, but at least Reagan lead the nation with dignity and grace, even if you didn't like his policies.

Thanks, R small. I should have been clearer. Who voted for him in this poll? That's what I meant.

LBJ--while flawed..and saddled with Vietnam--His commitment to Civil Rights and his War on Poverty did more for the people than any President after him. I get that most here will see that as a bad thing, but he gave America a heart--and I applaud him for it.
