Black-Americans might want to consider this. Metro Atlanta has a GDP rivaling that of the entire country of Colombia.

Metro Philly rivals the economy for the entire nation of South Africa.

Metro Chicago rivals the entire economy of Switzerland.

Metro Los Angeles rivals the entire economy of the Netherlands.

If U.S. Cities Were Countries, How Would They Rank? - The Atlantic

Now, if you have whatever moral or political beliefs on different things be it drug law policies or pro or anti gay marriage or whatever. Fine. If you are a black Republican or a black Democrat or a black member of the Nation of Islam or a black LGBTQ person or whatever... what do you think about the info in that map in the link?

Comparison and constraining is one of the tools of "critical thinking."

Amsterdam is located in the country of the Netherlands. When you see all the black faces (a few white ones) on LA's Skid Row... what do you start thinking when you see all the prosperous whites living well in Amsterdam, with the information you have from that colored map in the link above?

White people can give their input too but from my experience in America my assumption is it will only be reactionary USA! USA! USA! chanting. That may be the case for Black-Americans too. And that is fine that is one's choice. One can ignore the thread too. That is also fine. I've already drawn my own conclusions from the map. And I think for myself.

This video of Amsterdam by host Rick Steves was taken down in another thread under the explanation it was "off topic." Actually, I know it has more to do with controlling information and not wanting Black-Americans (or much of anyone else really) to visually see what Amsterdam has accomplished with far less money and how Black-Americans could potentially be living in a city like one as rich as LA.

Actually, I had no idea LA was that wealthy until I saw that map.

A day on SKID-ROW

Fidel Castro has died and some will cheer and say he did not want Cubans to know the world outside of Cuba or socialism. But within the US there are those that will shut down information put up publicly if they deem it will give others (especially at the bottom) a window or knowledge of the world outside the USA.

View the map and videos or ignore them. Does not bother me. I've already drawn my conclusions. You can chant USA! too. You can remark the map and videos demonstrate to you the USA is the best place on earth. Whatever. I've lived in the US my whole life I've heard all already. Another person may think and come up with a different conclusion but not post a remark. Fine as well.

Yes-very sad. Our corrupt financial system is an "illusion of wealth" for most, with no tangible wealth/benefits/prospect for the vast majority of people in their quality of life despite the impressions of what is on paper. It is a scheme from the top-down with most politicians and Presidents bought and controlled. Our worker productivity and once lauded Middle Class has been siphoned, stolen and wiped out by those in collusion with our Government and The Federal Reserve-money manipulators, profiteers, financial terrorists. Our real economy/wealth-producing goods-has been replaced by a temporary/flimsy illusion of wealth based on debt.

We have allowed our Government and Private Central Bank to create upwards of $20 TRILLION of our USD out of thin air to dole out to privately owned and controlled corporations and banks-some foreign-in order to further cement the global financial power structure for decades more to come-the "too big to fail' banks have only grown larger and to control more of our economy since the bailouts and stimulus programs. Our national sovereignty is not threatened, it is inconsequential.

Why is it we always have TRILLIONS to waste on the richest and most powerful in society-the corrupt and inept banks and corporations-but never enough for the working poor-our own citizens. Same thing with war and war profiteers-always have money for it, and it is propagandized to be "Un-American" to question this corruption and waste.

The Federal Reserve should be nationalized and their "too big to fail" banks should be shut down and liquidated. Everyone involved-from Government to the Private Sector-should be tried for treason and expelled from the country.

You're mixing a lot of things up here. First off, a tourist video is obviously going to show you the nicest things about a place. They edit out the bad stuff. Whereas, a homemade video deliberately showing a poorer area is going to give a more realistic view.

Second, GDP includes all the wealth combined, rich and poor. Even if you have a lot of poor, as long as you have a lot of wealth, the GDP will be high. GDP per capita would be a better measure, but even then, you can have large areas of poverty within a metropolitan are with only small areas of wealth. So you would have to break down a metropolitan area into sectors and examine them separately.

2e, I agree with you about the banksters. But LA is run by Democrats all during a black liberal Presudent ruling for 8 years. Not that Republicans would have done anything better. But my point is Democrats running LA can't blame things on non-existent Republican control of LA.

Retroit, you are free to show an impoverished section of Amsterdam you regard as equal to Skid Row in LA.

Actually, from videos of LA online the whole city and downtown area looks like trash. Most of it anyways.

You are correct that GDP per capital is a better indicator of the prosperity of a population. But that goes into distribution of wealth. Metro LA has a GDP larger than Amsterdam and it has a GDP nearly equal to the entire country Amsterdam is in. So, that indicate extreme inequality in wealth distribution in LA under the presumption it has a lower per capita GDP than Amsterdam.

But per capita GDP is a lesser point.

Will Black-Americans look out for their own and demand Skid Row homeless be given adequate shelter?

And if you sucked all the money from every nation of the planet outside of the US and gave it to the current Democrats running LA, guess what? Nothing in LA would change. It would look exactly as it does now.

Skid Row in LA and LA being run down can stay as it is forever. It is a testament to LA, as well as Obama, as well as Black-Americans, as well as Democrats and liberals particularly in LA. It is a testament to Americans.

Sufficient money will not be spent on the Skid Row homeless. Black-Americans with other Americans will send their tax dollars over to the Ukraine to lift drug addicted Ukrainians out of homelessness and to buy military arms from US arms contractors. That is what is going to happen. It won't happen because I'm a bad guy and make you people do it. It will happen because that is the kind of people you people are.

And be sure... I've read Europeans looking at American third world living with contempt for Americans. Increasingly the world is seeing the US is not this shinning beacon of love, togetherness, patriotism, and prosperity for all, as the curtains get pulled back.

I do have to give due credit to the people of Minneapolis because I hear they have done some remarkable things for the poor in that city. Via the city government investing in the helping the poor. So, there is at least one city in the United States that is "progressive."

Seriously, The US Government has work a lot in Making US Dollar worth what it is now, in Exchange has left many US citizens unable to compete with Chinese Mexicans, Indonesians, Phillipines and a very long ETC number of countries which have moved down in their currency Exchange.

Let us have this clear, This is not new and will not stop with protectionism, it will only stop when the Oil producers can sell their oil for Gold and not for Printed Paper. Until then US workers will suffer a lot.

The end of Petroddollar is the begining of the Reindustrialization of USA. anything else will be a bubble.

Actually any city, country, or society that is run by a black majority is poor and corrupt. White run majority cities, countries and societies are almost universally thriving except for those that tolerate high levels of corruption like Russia. You can call these statements racist but they reflect reality.

Amsterdam is a lovely city and Netherland is a very fine little country run by whites. I'm working in the Middle East for an engineering consulting company. One of my young engineers working in my department from Amsterdam was recently offered the opportunity for a promotion back in Amsterdam...he turned it down because he doesn't want to pay 52% of his income to taxes when he goes back. He also is planning his next car and is having to consider the weight of the car because they tax cars (monthly or yearly?) based on the weight of the car. He just says no one saves money off of their incomes in Netherlands.

Anyway, I agree with OP, Amsterdam is much better city and better managed than Detroit, DC, Cleveland, St. Louis, Memphis.

Black or brown. And it bothers me more than the average black or brown person. I wish black Africa, at least one single nation in black Africa, had an equivalent of Switzerland or Russia or at minimum one city with as gleaming a tourist section and night life section as a Miami in the United States. But none do. The closest is white dominated South Africa.

Fortunately, black Botswana has been making major improvements with the help of the Chinese and running a government that seems to be closer to clean British governing than Detroit or New Orleans government corruption.

Latin America has a number of countries further ahead infrastructurally than black Africa. And some pretty impressive cities. But even their impressive cities are marred by vast sections of poverty, slums, even in Chile a country acknowledge for being less corrupt in business than the United States. Most Latin American countries suffer from extreme levels of corruption in business and government. One of the best ways to become rich in Latin America is to become a federal level politician. Or be a contractor with strong ties to the government (gaining large government project contract, where you agree to overcharge and then give some of the overcharged money to the politician in paper cash you funnel to him or in some offshore account.)

Those things happen to in the US at varying levels. Some cities are more corrupt than others. LA supposedly is a very corrupt city. Or at least that is what the author of the book "Super Mob" claims, in his book about the Jewish men, especially one lawyer that lived in LA, that worked for the Chicago mafia.

@ blue bold: And now we get to the heart of the matter. To have a society that goes into vice, be it drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, or multi-partner gay male sex that leads to HIV often (as San Fransico bath houses proved), break down of the families, wide spread single mothers, if you want to mitigate the negative effects spilling out onto the rest of society you have to infuse tax dollars into mitigating the potential problems. That is what I learned from a British man online actually. A man from London. He noted specifically about homeless problems in the US or in England that private religious charities are fine, but they usually lack the money to sufficiently tackle the problem. In England the tax payer, the government, tackles the homeless problem. In almost every American city the government is absent, washes its hands, and private religious organizations are left housing or feeding the homeless. Such as the Rescue Mission (Protestant) and Salvation Army (Protestant) in Milwaukee. The Union Mission in LA on Skid Row I'm guessing is Protestant.

From a documentary (produced by a foreigner it seems from his accent) about Skid Row LA has double the homeless population than Chicago and New York combined.

And LA has the money. A nations (or in this case a city's) GDP is basically equal its National Income (City Income in this case). Metro LA (LA with its suburbs) is astronomically rich.

By the way... you mention Memphis. TNNRaw2 on YouTube under a "Black Female Cop Fired For Gang Involvement" calls Memphis a "ratchet" (slang term) city. The curvy black female cop was in a video with Memphis Blood's depicting the kidnapping and torture a person. She is accused of having sexual relations with Bloods gang members and feeding them police information. Apparently other black female cops have been fired in Memphis too for robbing people or something. And the Bloods street gang is an LA export.

And because LA is glamorized as one of the most advanced cities in the United States, blacks in Hollande in the Netherlands are now Crips. And even in Amsterdam I'm seeing YouTube videos were the local gang is no other than black people, emulating the dress and mannerism of the damned LA gangs.

Pretty soon... left to the Black-American Democrats, with their disdain for Minneapolis and the Midwest, and glorification of LA, black people in every part of the world will be emulating the Crips and Bloods. Not the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. And I'll never see the day of a black or brown Amsterdam or Antwerp in Latin America or Africa because of these Democrats hell bent on exporting LA "Americanism" too all black and brown people on earth.

Black African woman homeless in Amsterdam:

White dude that was homeless in Amsterdam (note he said gay men would try to pick him up, like heterosexual dudes might try to pick up homeless women for sex, and notice the kind charity some Muslims showed him):

The Skid Row documentary I spoke of by the foreigner. He calls it America's "only third world city."

And compared to Minneapolis, Minnesota:

A Catholic Charities homeless shelter. But notice the philosophy and "progressive" perspectives expressed as to light, color, shelter's impact on the mind of a person. And about treating people with divinity. Now compare that to f---in LA.
