Why should they be held for months or even weeks. Anyone who can not produce a Green Card or a visa permitting entry to the USA should immediately be put on a Bus and dropped off at the nearest Mexican border. I know these criminals are not all Mexican, but they all came across that border.

Those detainees may leave the county within 48 hours but the deportation process takes much longer, turning them over from the local jurisdiction is just part of the problem. Increased ICE staff and holding facilities, and local LE.
The other part of this is that police do not want to be responsible for turning over members of the immigrant community.
Hiring a bus to take one person from NYC to Mexico border is beyond dumb. Buses have multiple seats for a reason.
