If they don't absorb the cost of the tariff and keep the product competitive , we shop elsewhere for a cheaper product. It can't always be passed onto the consumer at a higher price. No one will buy when the product can be found at a cheaper cost. We have choices.
So another country steps in and prices it at just under the Mexico price with the tariff. Prices still go up and no new jobs created in the US.
And that's one of the secrets of the rich. That is, instead of buying a $200 Seiko watch every few years they buy a $3000 Omega watch that lasts for 30 years and still retains some if its value in the end.

Awesome, that is the one thing I was unhappy about with the new tax plan. I wanted to see corporations discouraged to send work over seas, for those that didn't they get a tax break. He handled it a different way.
Sure, in the short term this might hurt. Prices might go up, in the long run it is going to make our country stronger. Couple this with him devaluing the dollar and other countries might look to us for their work.
