The structure of our universities is failing at many levels, but one area that doesn't get much attention is that they can "convict" students of a crime without due process. Maybe this time it will get some publicity.

A major showdown over Title IX is brewing at the University of Minnesota, where the entire football team has agreed to boycott future games in support of 10 players who were suspended for sexual misconduct violations.
Student-athlete Drew Wolitarsky read a statement on behalf of the team Thursday night in which he blamed the administration for conducting an "unjust Title IX investigation without due process."
"We are concerned that our brothers have been named publicly with reckless disregard in violation of their constitutional rights," he said. "We are now compelled to speak for our team and take back our program."

In other words, they don't think they can win without those ten.
The rules are the rules. If the guys and their attys think their rights have been violated, that will be handled by a court. Only our legal system can determine that.
The team should give it the old college try, and try to win without the other 10. That's what is called a learning experience, which is what college is about.
Having read the entirety of this story-and the turnaround in the teams decision to boycott I have to say that I am proud of these students.
First for standing up for their brothers
Second for being humble enough to admit when they are wrong.
ON A STRONGER NOTE-SPEAKING FOR ALL OF WOMANKIND-Anyone that wouyld believe this women enjoyed and wanted this have no respect or understanding of real women and have obviously watched too much PORN!
Whatever the result in this particular case, I hope the new Secretary of Education returns some sanity to this. Crime resolution belong with the police. But then the left wouldn't be able to say that 1 in 5 female students are assaulted.

I wholeheartedly agree with the first part of the post, but sadly not the second. Unless you know this woman personally, you can't be sure this is true, because there most definitely are women who enjoy this sort of thing. I'm not saying she's one of them, but keep in mind what the police investigator said -
Quote:
During an 8-second clip, the woman “appears lucid, alert, somewhat playful and fully conscious; she does not appear to be objecting to anything at this time,” Wente wrote in his report. After viewing two additional videos, he wrote “the sexual contact appears entirely consensual.”
Quote:
On Sept. 30, Wente sent the investigation to the Hennepin County Attorney’s office for possible prosecution. In it, he wrote about the videos, “at no time does she indicate that she is in distress or that the contact is unwelcome or nonconsensual.”
There is room to doubt her story here. Certainly, it's not accurate to dismiss the players' story simply because no woman would ever do that. Distasteful as it may be, some do. The one thing we do know for a certainty is that no matter which side is telling the truth, this was a repugnant, extremely distasteful incident that does not reflect well at all on the team or the school. Which, if you take a moment to think about it, is probably the real reason the players were suspended.
I'm certainly not defending them, because even if there was no wrongdoing their behavior was pretty trashy and low-class, but it sounds like the university just may have gone a bridge too far on this one.

This is the same University that refuses to allow the description of rape suspects to be released to the media if they are non-white. But they go ahead and suspend all these black players on very shaky evidence. I cannot figure out what is going on over there.
The Gophers are a terrible football team anyway so I really don't care if they play or not. But their leadership is crazy.
