Former Rep. Chaka Fattah sentenced to 10 years in prison

Former Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday on charges of money laundering, bribery and fraud.

Fattah, 60, resigned from the House in June after being convicted on more than 20 counts of corruption charges. He'll have to report to prison by Jan. 25 to begin his sentence.

--------------

Original statement from July 2015

Congressman Chaka Fattah and Associates Charged with Participating in Racketeering Conspiracy

Congressman Chaka Fattah Sr., 58, of Philadelphia; lobbyist Herbert Vederman, 69, of Palm Beach, Florida; Fattah’s Congressional District Director Bonnie Bowser, 59, of Philadelphia; and Robert Brand, 69, of Philadelphia; and Karen Nicholas, 57, of Williamstown, New Jersey, were charged today in a 29-count indictment with participating in a racketeering conspiracy and other crimes, including bribery; conspiracy to commit mail, wire and honest services fraud; and multiple counts of mail fraud, falsification of records, bank fraud, making false statements to a financial institution and money laundering.

This must have been pretty bad for this justice department to rule in this manner.

Gotta wonder...will pardoning him be Obama's last act in office?

Rod Blagojevich hasn't been pardoned, and he was the one who tried to auction President Obama's senate seat. I doubt this guy will get a pardon either.

I hope you're right. I want to see some elected officials held accountable.

Blagojevich is serving a 14 year sentence in federal prison. He has tried appeals and has still been turned down.

Accountable? You folks complain till you are blue in the face about accountability, dishonesty, corruption and such, then you go and elect the biggest liar and crook who ever came down the pike. Where do you expect all this new honesty to come from?

Do you mean you want accountability? Or do you mean you want people you don't like punished?

Maybe you missed it but Hillary Clinton actually lost. I know, it was surprising to us too.

This guy is the picture of corruption. He was convicted of accepting a $1 million loan from a campaign donor for a failed campaign and using federal grant money intended for a nonprofit run by former aides to repay part of the loan. He also was convicted of using nonprofit funds to repay his son's college loans. Fattah was also convicted of accepting an $18,000 bribe in exchange for (unsuccessfully) helping the former deputy mayor secure an Obama administration post.
