A recent NYT article from the womens march mentioned a situation where a conservative lady told protesters that they wouldn't be marching if they had jobs. So for liberals, there is this narrative that people don't have jobs. But there is a contradictive narrative that says liberals are coastal elite. I'm not sure how one is unemployed and an elite....but who knows.

Conservative narratives are out there too...rednecks or wealthy people.

In leau of these narratives, which are all about PR and branding, and less to do with reality. That's one reason to laugh at people who peddle these narratives...as they're victims of smart marketing.

Of these narratives, what is true? Are conservatives rednecks? Are liberals coastal elites?

Facts and figures encouraged. NO ALTERNATIVE FACTS

As for me, I'll say that I tend to think of liberals as coastal elites such as myself (albeit I'm a libertarian who feels more comfortable as a Dem because of Repub racism). I always laugh when conservatives mock liberals about not having jobs because it's not true. So I'm definitely a coastal elite, educated at good universities, employed, wearing $800 sweaters, etc.

You were doing ok until the Republicans are racist part, then you just drove off the cliff.

I don't like any labels or narratives as you say. It is a broad brush stroke that only is another way to separate us. Same is true with religion.

That is frankly the reason why we have President Trump right now. Because liberals and the MSM largely had written off large swaths of the populations as "racist rednecks" or the basket of deplorables.

I didn't say Repubs are racist. I said that as a libertarian and MINORITY, I felt more comfortable as a Dem as opposed to Repub due to those narratives about Repub racism (+ my past experiences). Will always be that way.

But is that true...are they racist rednecks...cause a lot of trump's supporters were also very wealthy elites. I have some colleagues who make mid six figures and they were so happy about trump because they would benefit big time.

Heck, the one thing I was looking forward to about trump is that my stock portfolio is going to skyrocket...hoping for 15% returns

That "conservative lady" needs to get a calendar.

The march was on a Saturday.

It just all comes down to straw-man arguments - a tactic employed by people who are too lazy to look up the facts, never mind provide a decent debate. I'm a liberal living in highly conservative rural Colorado. My clothes come from the local thrift store since I'm forced to live off a very small SSDI check. I got laid off from my job when employment out here tanked thanks to the decreased price of carbon based fuels. The foreman of the ranch I live on told me to my face that I am a liar after I'd casually mentioned to him that I had a degree in biology - an evil field of study run by lying SCIENTISTS!

Whatever.

My small town of 8,000 souls actually had 500 people show up in support of the Women's March last Saturday - this despite the fact that the weather was dreadful with plenty of snow. If nothing else, these ladies marching through the snow drifts proved that global warming really is a hoax.

I see liberals, as a mix of average folk somewhat better educated, much more likely a have a passport and to have used it. They tend to be willing to pay higher taxes in order to benefit the greater good.
I see liberals as those who have more empathy for those who are not as lucky. I believe Liberals have a better understanding of the economic challenges the modern world presents. And are more likely to understand were the job market is going and more likely to be invested in a global economy.

I also see some liberals as being politically engaged but completely naïve, they can have expectations that are simply unachievable and that might marginalize some healthy conservatives who should not be marginalized. Those tend to be younger left leaning folk. I would include in that group those who saw no difference between Hillary and Trump.
there are also some liberals that are so extreme they come full circle and agree with more extreme conservatives on a range of topics, but only as long as neither group knows the other agrees...

If you are unable to see the racism at the core of the democrat party, and it is much in evidence, as they are trying to select a leader for the DNC, why would anyone believe your vision is better on any subject ?

Your words "Will always be that way" confirm a closed mind. Pointless to engage the close mind. Invites a crowbar.
