On Thursday, the President discussed a plan to repeal the Johnson Amendment with the approval of Congress. The law prohibits churches from engaging in political activity, because doing so risks them losing their tax exempt status. Repealing it allows them to engage in any political activities they wish, including campaign contributions Per the President: "Freedom of religion is a sacred right, but it is under serious threat." Ironically, he also defended his Muslim visa ban, explaining that terrorism is a fundamental threat to religious freedom. It seems that he believes freedom of religion only applies to Christianity.

It's not Christians that are flying planes full of people into buildings full of people, throwing them off other buildings, burning them alive, chopping their heads off and putting them in boiling water because they disagree with their religion. The mere existence of radical Muslim extremists is based on the suppression of religion.

Time to join the ACLU again. Keeping our separation of religion and state is fundamental to our constitution. If the churches want to give up their tax free operations, then fine preach all the politics they want. Until that happens they need to stick to Good Book issues.

Where does it say separation of church and state in the Constitution? (hint: it does not)

Don't even think about quoting the Jefferson Danbury Congregation letter, he was talking about a wall between the government and the state, that is... in the federal government dictating religious doctrine to the state and people, something that Virginia had then recently had issues with and the Danbury congregation was worried that the federals governments role would also dictate religious doctrine to the people. Jefferson informed them they had nothing to worry about because the federal government had NO authority over such matters, no say, and so there should be no concern.

Now the Constitution does state that the government has no right to institute a law to "respect" an establishment of religion (ie this is the part about a government being able to institute religious doctrine, such as what Sharia law would be), meaning that it can not demand obedience or lawful compliance by any state or person in such. It also states that it can not prohibit the free exercise there of, meaning the government has NO say, None... nada... sit down.. no comment.

We both know that the government is violating that second part of the clause often and throughout numerous violations, but.. it's ok right? "modern" meaning can be pulled out of ones arse and justify anything with the "living constitution!" /gag

He's also planning to give the go-ahead to white supremacists regarding terrorism. They are now free to do whatever the want without being investigated. President Bannon is really terrifying.

While sicko Trump makes ratings jokes at prayer breakfasts, Bannon is turning the country into one big Klan.

"...Three days after a white nationalist with an affinity for Trump killed six while shooting up a mosque in Canada, Reuters reports that the Trump administration wants a federal counter-terrorism program to stop focusing on violent white supremacists and any other extremist groups not comprised of Muslims..."

It was such a joke anyways. Essentially, black churches could hold political rallies if they chose while any white church that mentioned anything political was targeted.

WHERE does it sat in the Constitution that religious organizations should be tax exempt?

HINT: It doesn't!

IF they want to play the game, let them pay the entry fee like everyone else.

I agree. Pay to play like every other corporation - then spout off to your heart's content.

IMO let them preach whatever they want and ALSO let them pay the same fees any other organization would have to in their place, with deductions for their charitable contributions just like any other non profit.
