At least someone in California has finally figured out that improving the area is best financed through taxing rising real estate values. The problem is it will need to have strings attached to prevent people from going to low rent districts with their free education.
New York state provides tuition free public college for anyone with income under $125 000 and Rhode Island for everyone regardless of income.
Funny how some right wingers are so against tuition free public college when it is absolutely essential that people have the opportunity to get the education they need as the world change around them. Low skilled manufacturing jobs are not returning. High skilled, high tech manufacturing is the only solution if you want manufacturing jobs and that requires education!
Right wingers pushed for war with Iraq which will cost more than $3 trillion, which is 50 years' worth of tuition free public college ($75 billion per year), so right wingers cant complain.

Democrats (& Republicans) voted (almost 80/20) in FAVOR of the war in Iraq (including HRC & John Kerry). My opinion at the time was that the military exercise in Afghanistan was justified. (to go after and kill radical islamic terrorists who knocked down our buildings) But the invasion of Iraq made no sense.
There were many of us (independents & clear thinking republicans and democrats) who smelled a rat and didn't believe that there were WMD in Iraq. Odd collection of bedfellows in those early years: Brent Scrocroft, Ted Kennedy, William Crowe, Hugh Shelton, Russ Feingold, John Murtha, Howard Dean, Stansfield Turner & Dennis Kucinich.....& some guy named Trump.

Yeah back when "America was great", people in this tax bracket paying 90% so this is a small price to pay for the greater good.

As far as people paying 90% tax? You should stop spreading miss information. In those times anything and everything was a deduction, so the actual amount payed was way less. And it only applied to individuals earning over $1.7 million or couples earning $3.4M (in today's dollars).
So you are just posturing with the tax is theft nonsense then. Not everyone uses freeways. Thats the reality. You're fine with freeways and dont scream about "nothing is free", "tax is theft" when talking about freeways. Freeways are not used by everyone and is funded by all sorts of taxes. Gas taxes dont contribute nearly enough ro properly fund it.
Yes, everyone uses freeways. How the **** do you think most of the food and produce gets from the farmlands to the cities? Helicopters?
What about packages and mail? Everyone uses freeways, even if they don't own a car.

A .005% tax on wall street speculation would pay for free college in the whole of the United States. This would have been a reality if Sanders had become president. Imagine if the top 1% like Trump actually paid their taxes. All you right wingers clinging to your pile of crumbs and complaining about wasteful government spending should look to your own party and ask yourself, why does no one in the GOP even bring this issue up? Instead they deflect by creating talking points about abortion, gay marriage and obamacare.
I would not want my kids or grandkids going to school in that goofy town.
