Free college is a ridiculous idea. I know when I was a kid fresh out of high school I went to a community college and didn't put that much into it because my father was paying for it. I did get my degree but I sure could have applied myself more. Years later I went back to a 4 year school and really applied myself because I was paying for it.

It is just human nature to work harder and take care of something if you work for it and it is not just handed to you.

Free college might be good for some who would excel but for many it would mean continued entitlement of the spoiled brat attitude.

I'd rather see them put some money toward the people who want to learn a trade.

Just happens it's sooooooo ridiculous that practically all other western countries has some form of free/heavily subsidized college huh?
Sorry but if you think 2017 is the same as when you were a kid out of high school, get real. Times have changed and still change, either keep up or fall behind. Welcome to capitalism.

Countries with practically free college:
Norway
Finland
Sweden
Germany
Slovenia
France

Well, if they don't do something about the homeless, the poop and needles on the streets they will lose a percentage of their tourism dollars. And if they continue to break Federal Law by harboring fugitive illegal aliens they will lose hundreds of millions in Federal Funds.

So how will they swing this?

Free. Liberals keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it does.

It's a 5 million dollar item in a nearly 9 billion dollar budget.

Practically a rounding error and it'll benefit a lot of people.

It is ridicules, like most social experiments when you give a person something with no pre-qualifying or effort to earn it you get a waste of resources. What was the joke in the old Soviet Union "everyone is an engineer" "everyone is a college graduate", yeah right.

I guess if this does go through then having a degree will become a pre-requisite to work at McDonalds.

It isn't being funded by property tax. It is sales transfer tax on properties that sell for $5 million or more.

My problem with this is I think equal consideration should be given to people that want to go to a trade school instead.
