Dubbed the New York State Liberty Act, the legislation would make New York a “sanctuary” state by prohibiting the detention of undocumented individuals on immigration detainers unless there was a warrant from a judge.

It would also, among other things, prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from stopping or questioning a person based on perceived immigration status.

Silly question.

Is a state passing bills directly against federal law a crime?

It still has to pass the NY senate... which is GOP controlled. So I am doubting it will go any further, but we will see.

Well maybe the BIG Apple doesn't needs Fed funds-- I believe in reality- most big cities make the revenue- and can re-direct funds if they want to play that game. I think if all big cites - except the wuz in Miami stick together - be a win. STATE AND CITY LEOS have no business being FEDS LEOS-- Honey if you are one of those policemen- who will chase illegals/// make sure the pay you FED agent wages ok...

The towers rebuilt just in time for another assault compliments of liberal lackadasical national security policy bought to you by NY.

Notice how 'illegal' is dropped and the word 'immigrants' used instead. Convienient as any argument against that bill is to be taken as hatred against immigrants not illegal immigrants. Word substitution a common tactic among wordsmithing layer politicians and liberals on the losing end of an argument.

Are you kidding? Without the ports, Federal Reserve, and 1000s of other federal institutions, NYC would turn into a dust cloud overnight.

New York Passes State Passes "Sanctuary State" Bill
Unless they want to dismantle the Statue of Liberty and ship it back to France, I think it is excellent that they take this step. Emma Lazarus said it best

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
