An anonymous survey sent to businesses across Tucson from the Tucson Metro Chamber gives an inside look at how the minimum wage increase has impacted local businesses.
Quote:
Forty-nine percent of business owners say the increase has not impacted their day-to-day operations.
Unfortunately, Proposition 206 (Min Wage Increase) is affecting the majority:
20% are having layoffs
32% are reducing hours
11% are moving to automation
13% are considering closing business for good
40% are increasing the prices of goods and services
But the increase in wages isn't just for those making minimum wage - Esquibel had to increase the wages of those who have worked for him for many years.
"The biggest issue that I faced is some of the employees that I have had for years had to have their wages adjusted." Adding, "many employees walking in were making close to what veteran employees make."
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Prop 206, increasing minimum wage to $10, has been in effect for over a month now and local business owners are struggling to adjust to keep their store operating.
Dean Greenberg, owner of Shlomo and Vito's Deli, says the minimum wage was the last straw before he shut down his business of nine years.
Not surprising when the depth of one political group is unable to rise above name-calling. Shallowness of thought insures the left is not able to understand the real economic impact of something like this upon small businesses. That thinking is better suited for discussing tv, music and movie entertainment.

Just more whining from lots of incompetent "small business owners" who want to blame everyone else but themselves if they struggle. Most businesses go bankrupt after all, regardless of minimum wage. I find it especially comforting that "the biggest challenge" is that they have to pay people making more than minimum wage much more, in other words the bargaining power of huge amounts of people increases. People who are against higher minimum wage because "those lazy folks" dont deserve it should think again. You are likely to see increased wages as well if you earn $15-$20 now as your bargaining power increases when the wage floor is lifted for all workers.
Lets look at the facts.
Washington state has the highest minimum wage in the country. Massachusetts also has a $11 minimum wage. The sky isnt falling in any of these states. MA has the 2nd lowest unemployment rate in the country.
If more Trump voters started to vote for policies that would improve their situation, like a higher minimum wage, a national health care system, strengthening SS, SSDI and SSI and tuition free public college and trade schools, we wouldnt be in this mess, constantly going on and on and on about immigration and islamic terrorism as people would feel more financially secure and wouldnt risk voting for an authoritiarian crony capitalist.
So a "survey" sent to one party of vested interests with a financial incentive to go against minimum wage, results in "findings" that say minimum wage is bad....
Arizona is one of a handful of states that mandate all employers to do the e-Verify thing. Presumably, fewer undocumented workers are employed in Az than in states that do not require e-Verify.
The unemployment rate in Tuscan is 4.3%.
The local government voted to increase Minimum Wage from $8.05 to $10, effective 1/2/ 2017.
The way Tuscon chose to administer this survey makes the outcome meaningless.
How many surveys were issued and how many employers responded.
And, most importantly, how many employees are represented by each response.
Weighting matters.
What Tucson does is none of my business.
