Does anybody think this country will break apart when Trump leaves office, however that may be? Certain things may make the prospect more likely, such as his impeachment or defeat to a Democrat in 2020. I wonder if Trump and his followers will attempt a coup. They seem to have no problem with the prospect of coastal areas breaking away from the heartland and are even gleeful about it. It seems to me, we are at a point where party or ideology is more important than country. The last time we were in a time like this was the 1850s. Is anybody else concerned?
If the coastal states break away, Trump will go down in history as the catalyst. IMO the west coast would be far better off doing so. I'm not concerned. The middle of the country needs to stand on its own feet. The best punishment for Republicans is having to live with Republican policies. We just need to build a wall to keep them out of the west coast.

I hate this because I live in the reddest state of the union and am surrounded by Trump-lovers (though most younger people here dislike him). When everything goes down, I would definitely want to be in a blue state because things are going to fall apart completely in red ones. And once the Baptist Church takes control, heartland North America won't look too much different from Afghanistan under the Taliban.

I love this because I live in a blue state, in a blue city where Trump only got 8% of the vote. They don't like him one bit and every day, everything he does only reinforces that more. Think of how disliked one has to be to only get 8% of the vote.
We've been deeply divided for awhile now, and Trump/Putin merely exploited that divide for their gain. I do think if he is impeached there will be some fanatics declaring civil war, but all in all a president with a ~35% approval rating going down wouldn't cause widespread unrest. Overall, the silent majority would breathe a sigh of relief and prosper under a more normalized leader (whether Republican or Democrat).

You do have a point here, but what could happen is states like Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and possibly Texas where Trump has widespread support could decide to secede. That could escalate into something much bigger. You are right though, most Americans on average will be breathing a sigh of relief when he's gone, but it's all about where those Americans are concentrated and where those who love him live.
It sounds like this would be received far more positively by both sides than the Mexico wall.
