As if stupid people are going to quit smoking.

Cigarettes cost over $10/pack (20 cigarettes) in Chicago. Guess which segment of the population has the highest rate of smokers? Yep. The poor.

They can pay for that but can't pay for their health insurance? BS. Likewise, the poor have the highest rate of obesity.

Investors own corporate stocks, and they're the ones who profit. Who do you think the largest investor is in the US?

That's not much. Your premium reflects your risk. I'd be good with health insurance working the same way, with no subsidies.

Trump would have a tax obligation in those countries with regressive tax codes.

How one earns their income, earned vs capital gains matters more in the US.

Your losses regardless of reasons can and do offset what otherwise would be taxable gains in the US.

Some seek/ create capital loss opportunities for the sole purpose of reducing their overall tax obligations in the US.

On the flip side, the US has the EITC which benefits ( some might say encourages) low income people to have more children than they can reasonably afford. Poor people have more children everywhere, regardless of tax or welfare benefits.

Because those are the same idiots that will get in an auto accident requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of surgery and then can't pay for it cause they have no insurance. Or the illegal who goes to the ER for care because they have no health insurance. Who pays for that care? THE TAXPAYERS!!

So if a young guy rides a motorcycle and has a catastrophic accident but does not have insurance what should we do with that guy? Just let him die in the street because he's too young to be able to pay the bill for his care? Is that really the kind of world you want to live in? There are lots of life choices that endanger a person who normally takes good care of his/her body. Lots of accidents happen, too, that can take away your well-being through no fault of anyone.

Because most civilized people don't want to step over dead bodies when they leave their house.

Not anywhere near as much. It's a fact that Dems outnumber Republicans on public assistance programs by more than 2 to 1. For example, Food Stamps:

I want everyone to have universal healthcare. I want inexpensive medical care available for everyone. But for the love of god, can we stop saving people determined to kill themselves with drugs? Seriously.
