Unfortunately for you, living in a civilized society means paying into things you may not use personally, for the greater good.
Unless you think we should also do away with things like public school or the fire department?
Public schools and fire departments are funded by a flat tax that everyone pays at the local level, even renters (it's included when landlords calculate their rent). Would you be on board with similarly making the federal income tax a flat tax that everyone pays to fund the federal public assistance programs and single payer health care?
I would add smokers, alcohol abusers, the obese, and the physically unfit to that, as well. Those are all CHOICES that one makes
Fitness/sports causes a lot of injuries. There is an entire segment of healthcare called Sports Medicine.
There are all kinds of sports and fitness injuries that are costly. Things like artificial knees can be due to excessive running/wear tear on the knee. ACL and tendonitis (tennis elbow). Bicycle injuries, football, soccer and baseball injuries. Joggers and cyclists sometimes get hit by cars.
If less people want to buy health insurance, then less people will have it. Who cares. Nobody gets hysterical when Ferrari sales are down.
Sooo, you're from the motherland of Putin and company? Please enlighten us on the greatness of Russian medical access..Hint, this ain't about Ferrari's..
Because those are the same idiots that will get in an auto accident requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of surgery and then can't pay for it cause they have no insurance. Or the illegal who goes to the ER for care because they have no health insurance. Who pays for that care? THE TAXPAYERS!!
Taxpayers?
Households in the exact middle of the middle Incom bracket pay less than 6% EFFECTIVE tax rate and complain about it.
Will having healthcare insurance available for those who will not provide it for themselves guarantee eternal life here on Earth? Wow, what other consumer service can make that claim?

You do know, of course, there is nothing preventing you from being completely generous with your own money, right?
It doesn't matter how you feel about it; you and me and most of us have to pay for other people's choices.
Most? It's only a little over half of all tax filers.

But for reasons I know not what, the majority of complaints are about paying for welfare. Why is that? We are paying taxes to support people who are poor and can't support themselves. Most aren't lazy, some are, but we have no control over who gets welfare. Still, why do people complain about paying for health care for poor children? I truly cannot understand why people would be so petty as to complain about us paying taxes to offer health care for an impoverished child, or adult for that matter
Here's the problem with that...
Women receiving public assistance, as a group, have a birth rate 3 times higher than women who don't receive public assistance. That, in itself has led to the additional problem of nearly half of all U.S. births being paid for by Medicaid (Medicaid itself reports it at 48%). 70% of those kids will never rise out of poverty, even as adults.
You do the math... Who thinks supporting all those additional poor people (Medicaid, food stamps, public housing, etc., etc.) that are added to our population every year is sustainable, or even possible at all? What's the proposal for funding food, clothing, shelter, and medical care for all those who will never be self-supporting their entire lives?
I want everyone to have universal healthcare. I want inexpensive medical care available for everyone. But for the love of god, can we stop saving people determined to kill themselves with drugs? Seriously.
i have no problem with that.
An OD is rarely rock bottom for most opiate/ opioid addicts.
Because they moment they DO need health insurance, they start sponging off the system. That's the problem with it. Also, they may actually need health care but decide that they are indestructible and thus end up spreading some illness to plenty of other people before they get sick enough to go to the doctor (and thus, again, sponge off the system.)
Sorry, but the claims "not everyone needs health insurance" is simply false.
By that logic, everyone who MIGHT buy a car someday should have to buy car insurance from the moment they turn 16 and could conceivably drive whether they want to or not.
