Wait a minute. Trump was the one who first tweeted about wiretapping. This was a serious accusation. Trump has gotten himself into this mess.
Although I think this is exactly where he wants to be. He wants the wiretapping issue to be front page news. He wants to take away attention from the AHCA and all of his supporters in the red states who will paying either higher premiums or who will find themselves uninsured. Not to mention his supporters who will lose under his draconian budget measures.
He's more than happy for us to focus on the wiretapping. He never had any intention of keeping his promises to the American people. Trump wants to please Trump. Full stop, as Sheppard Smith said this afternoon.

Too much class...that's a joke. I would love to see Obama sue Trump. I bet Trump would too. Then Trump's lawyers would be able to conduct discovery and depose Obama under oath.

Anybody can sue for anything. Winning such a suit is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
Obama won't sue because the discovery process will render what little remains of his "legacy" into flaming debris. He fears discovery far more than anything Trump might say, now or in the future.
So Trump will be able to say anything and everything he wants about Obama with complete impunity, and Obama will not dare doing anything about it. While that no doubt rankles Obama to no end, in the final analysis he has no real choice.
Unfortunately, he's too classy to do it, but I wonder if anyone else could do it? Any lawyers out there?

unsure about that. the standard for libel/slander against a public political figure is extremely high. it's up to the plaintiff to prove intentional malice on the part of the defendant ( basically obama would have to prove what's in trump's heart ).
