With the level of encroachment on our 4th amendment, in this NSA gathering of all our communications exposed. Now we know this information is used to dig dirt on US citizens. Used to blackmail government officials.
They use this to get dirt on you, to persuade and force to side with the government, or be exposed.

This is being used to blackmail people in high places to do things out of their character, and blatantly immoral and loss of integrity.
