I don't think Democrats gave up on the blue collar worker, I think the blue collar worker is just unwilling to accept that their type of jobs are no longer viable in the modern world and nobody is going to bring them back. They believed the lie that Trump would bring coal and manufacturing back, which is the only reason they voted for him instead of Democrats.
It is true that many blue collar manufacturing jobs are lost to technology but that being the ONLY reason WHY we voted for Trump is ridiculous.
The GOP wants the cheap labor and the Dems were hoping for Hillary and amnesty to follow which translates to millions of votes which meant never seeing another Republican in higher office.
What really frustrated people and drove them to vote for Trump was the perception that Dems thought more of illegal aliens than citizens.

Democrats are still more interested in protecting the rights of "illegal" aliens than the hard working, tax paying American. In other words, they still don't get it. What you're going to see is the typical Democrat play.... if it didn't work the first round, they'll try to do more of it.

The same people that claim manufacturing jobs have been permanently eliminated by advances in technology will also insist that we must maintain free trade deals with China and Mexico because US wages would make our products too expensive for anyone to afford.

Where will the money come from?
The 0.5% who provide 2/3 of all campaign funding have already eliminated the wealthy from consideration and poor immigrants don't have any money for that.
That just leaves working Americans who are already having their wages destroyed by a greedy donor class that has demanded free trade with third-world hell holes and filled the country with foreign-born mooches.
There is one guy standing with working Americans and he is now President, but don't think for a minute corporate whores on both sides of the isle wouldn't love get rid of him.

With worker's wages stagnant for the past four decades and more and more of the wealth created by them being directed to upper management, why should we be bringing in more workers from other nations except to further drive down wages while the donor class pockets the surplus?
I guess they expect to get the hispanic vote to make up for losing blue collar white voters.

Well, I do consider immigrants to be better human beings than Trump supporters, so yes I'd happily keep hard working Mexicans here and get rid of Trump voters. The latter are extremely dangerous, evil people. Immigrants are just trying to provide for their family.
