We've seen that Trump supporters will do anything to support Trump but the rest of the country is not impressed. He has the lowest approval in recent history going all the way back to Eisenhower.
Trump holds on to his base — but is losing nearly everyone else

Yes he is holding onto his base and you know what that means, right? He holds onto the House and the Senate. He gets to effect the kinds of changes his base put him in office to do. I realize the MSM is trying to signal Congress with silly stories like this, but the people in office get it, even if the left doesn't.

This past election clearly demonstrated that the media is not believable and neither are the polls. The fact that people like me are highly skeptical of everything I read and almost everything I see is a reflection of that reality.
Aside from that and ref: your OP - bla bla bla bla bla Supreme Court.
For "holding onto the base" he hasn't accomplished much. He and the pubs have no excuses since they hold the majority of both House and Senate. Yet even with that, he's not meeting promises he made. The buck stops with him. No excuses.
I think I would rather have strong support from 42% than tepid support from the other 58%.
The 58% doesn't amount to a hill of beans if they don't go out to vote.
What you have to realize is that 62% think the Republican party in general is heading in th ewrong direction and 67% the Democratic party is. In that context Trump's numbers are not that bad.
What we have is irresistable forces, technology and globalization, making life more difficult for many Americans. It is a bad time to be a politician.
LOL. Math says otherwise. Trump barely won by a margin of 100,000 votes scattered around three states; his election was a fluke. All the Dems need to do is field a better candidate than Hillary Clinton, which won't be hard to do, and Trump loses reelection -- if he runs again.

Advertising works, and most of the media and Hollywood have been on a media blitz.
