In one rally, where he said "I am going to build a wall !" , you can hear some woman yelling "YES, YES !" in the background. They bought into the idea hook, line, and sinker, and it was simply a know nothing real estate salesman selling them the con job of the century.
But now, Trump is , of course, shifting blame for not building it onto congress. What happened to "I am going to make the Mexicans pay for it........believe me !" ?

That bill was for 700 miles of fence, not a big beautiful wall, and that money is almost all spent.
