Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue took steps Monday to roll back healthy school lunch standards promoted by former first lady Michelle Obama in one of his first regulatory acts.
----
“This announcement is the result of years of feedback from students, schools, and food service experts about the challenges they are facing in meeting the final regulations for school meals,” Perdue said in a statement.
“If kids aren't eating the food, and it’s ending up in the trash, they aren't getting any nutrition – thus undermining the intent of the program.”

Michelle Obama did not invent her own school lunch program. The program was an emphasis on the Department of Agriculture's dietary recommendations, which have been on the table for more than half a century...those are the recommendations are experts (as opposed to corporations that have high fructose corn syrup to sell).
"Kids and schools" are not "experts" by any means. As a parent, I certainly never let our kids have the final word on what they would eat.
Went in to eat with grandson last year on grandparents day. Food was not edible. Most of the students were dumping it in the trash. Was not even sure what part of it was supposed to be.
