Here's another "angle" to consider: what if Universal Basic Income (UBI) is really just BS propaganda disseminated by the powers-that-be/billionaire class/elites to prevent "mass panic" and unrest from the general population?? What if it's all a fairy-tale and there is, in fact, no "real" solution to the mass poverty/mass unemployment that automation and AI will likely create?
It's plausible, especially when you think about what "gives" money it's value to begin with. Those green pieces of paper only have "value" because people believe that they do, on top of the scarcity effect (most people don't have many green pieces of paper, and so the green pieces of paper are perceived to be scarce).
So if you suddenly gave everyone a fixed monthly check of "free money" there's the possibility that this could "devalue" the money itself, cause lots of inflation, or who-knows-what other unintended consequences
Then there is also the question of what will happen to
huge swathes of the "regular" economy: if everyone is on a "fixed" UBI monthly income, will there be any discretionary money left over after "needs" (housing, food, utilities, etc) to actually spend into the "regular" economy/grow the economy? Or will we all be living in tiny/cramped government housing, eating government-supplied GMO food slop, getting micro-chipped, etc as a "condition" of receiving our UBI checks?
This is all interesting stuff to think about
