They didn't miss it, they completely ignored it because they were told to.
Yes, they refuse to believe a well respected career military officer (McMasters) over some unnamed source from news agencies that have been proven to put out fake news about Trump on a regular basis.
People getting upset that Obama didn't have a leaky presidency should really be asking themselves why. Why is it Trump's WH is so much more leaky than Obama's WH was (Or really, pretty much any other president's WH)?
Maybe it's really simple...maybe, just maybe, he's wildly unpopular with the people working under him and he is doing unpopular things that these people think need to shared with the American people (and I mean, with a track record with the truth like this, I get it)
After all - what is their primary purpose in government? It is not to serve the President. It is to serve the American people - and if they believe that Trump's actions/statements are not to the benefit of the American people, then I fully understand why they would leak. The President is not a dictator - nor are we about to let that happen anytime soon.
To the point that this is just a bunch of "Obama holdovers" - I'd also ask you why the beginning of Obama's presidency, which had Bush holdovers, did not go the same way. For that matter - ask yourself that same question in regards to the beginning of every presidency where there is a shift of power.
Even if they are Obama holdovers, what's taking Trump so long to replace them? One of the first things a decent manager does is bring in reinforcements, especially when he doesn't know the lay of the land. If this is how Trump managed his business, I'm certain he's in deep with the Russians since he'd need their money.
I find all of this a touch scary, but I also found some humor in the situation: I bet Comey and his cronies in the FBI who wanted Trump to beat Hillary are suffering from a serious case of buyer's remorse. LOL

But it wasn't some unnamed source. It was the President of the United States, Donald J Trump, who tweeted that he had the right to give classified information to the Russians.
The fact that you are still in denial/deflection mode speaks well of your determination, but c'mon man, the POTUS has once again blindsided his own people.

He has the power to declassify anything he wants, it became de-classified as soon as he told his comrades. Now, giving it to Russia, that's probably a first.

Does it stay de-classified? Isn't it risky to have it stay that way? Or did his big mouth automatically de-classify it and now it doesn't require protection at all?
McMasters is the leaker, he said didn't happen.
Trump has been setting traps to expose who is leaking what.
You have not heard of, or from, Kushner lately. Ivanka is laying low.
Preibus is not on top of the communications team.
McMasters is in deep doo-doo!
So that's why Trump sent McMaster out today to do clean-up?
