Beijing plans underwater observation system in South China Sea - CNN.com

Unbelievable! I love how they're trying to pawn this off as scientific research related. This subject is totally a bipartisan issue thankfully.

One of the most important economic zones and waterways in the world slowly but surely being taken over by China.

China likes doing this thing where they do one thing at a time, that people dont view as worth the effort to fight them on. Then another. Then another. And then eventually they have heavily armed airbases in the area, and are taking it because hey-they have bases there, and no one locally can stand up to them.

I thought Trump would, but once China made nice with his family he has backed off.

As long as they don't get overly aggressive, I can care less what they do over there.

Even if they get overly aggressive, I hope Americans are smart enough to still say NO to war.

Plus, Chinese won't start any wars. they don't have any reasons to.

If they eventually try to block ships or control access that is against international law. Don't you think they have a long term goal?

China doesn't invest time and money into anything unless there's some sort of strategy behind it.

Why else have they implemented what they already have, and are adding to it over time? There has to be an angle there.

I think we need to view China as a potential... well.. friend (for lack of a better word)

i've visited China and Chinese people love American people and culture, this much I do know.

They have no desires of starting wars with American people. They honestly don't even have any desires of starting wars with Japan or anywhere else. I think we should keep a working relationship, we can benefit from each other. They are interested in building their economy, can't really blame them for it.

We should do the same.

I'm sure that's all true I just don't think it's fair if they try and claim all of the natural resources as their own...as in fish, oil, etc and then possibly try and put some sort of a toll on ships that want to use the waterways.

I think they become a little bit aggressive, but I will give them some freedom to move within limits. It is not a big deal because no countries is really perfect.

I think as long as we can keep the balance of power, we should be good. China for the most part, is still a third world country full of problems. The good news is that they don't want to start any wars as for now, and we should keep it this way.

Not to worry, Donny and Ivanka already got their Chinese trademark approvals.

And this is a perfect demonstration on why what they are doing ha been so effective. Its always that small push over and over that falls JUST short of the red line. and once its established they push a little bit more. And no one is willing to fight over each incremental step, despite the fact that they would fight like heck over the eventual goal.

Its proven remarkably effective.
