OFM | Data Book

I also need to find for you the Washington Department of Transportation funding for eastern and western Washington.....I have a copy, but cannot find it on the Office of Financial Management web site.

Basically both sides of the state are within 1% of balance. Eastern Washington get more money for state programs outside of transportation. It sends transportation funds over to western Washington.

We don't want it to be a WHOLE state. It was a mistake by President Cleveland and his damn pocket veto!!

Oh, population of eastern Washington is 1.7 million. It would be the 38th largest state in the union. Equal to Idaho and larger than Montana and 12 others. We will do fine.

So do you think you guys can start going green and get rid of fossil fuel generating stations. 70% OMG.
King County alone contributes 42% of the state revenues and gets only 25% of the expenditures. That's just King County. Show where Eastern Washington and Western Washington are within 1%, because that is absolutely not true. Saying the book is missing is not an answer. By all means, split the state. When they are paying for themselves, we can talk about increases in hydro for what would be the real Washington state. Eastern Washington could become Western Idaho.

Sounds like a plan. If I may ask, where is it NY will get their natural gas and oil from if you are banning products for those states?

Bahahaha... so now you are dividing up the state too.

those 3 states should raise taxes about 20% for pollution control and show the rest of America what they're made of!

I think this little tit for tat perfectly describes the split in the US.

Western Washington is blue....they generate 70% of their electrical power from fossil fuels and import a huge amount from eastern Washington and other red states.

Eastern Washington is red......we generate almost 100% of our electrical power from carbon free sources

Yet, we keep getting lectured about not being green. That we need to rip out our dams....not the City of Seattle dam in eastern Washington.

Urban folks think reality is a job working for an advertising company like google or facebook. That this modern world can survive just on bits of data. Real wealth comes from natural resources and their conversion into things like homes, electricity, food, etc. Most of which is produced in red states or areas. Granted the economic wealth is concentrated in the coastal Elite communities. But you better hope that your power or food deliveries never stop.

Maybe we could have a "day without electricity" in the coastal elite areas!!!

There is a reason why Trump got elected.......

No matter what Trump has promised...coal mining jobs won't come back. He is trying to bring us back to the past. Why isn't he trying to bring us into the future. Renewable energy is the way to go.

It is a perfect description of the split in the U.S. To say a rural part of the state that happily sucks up the tax money from the urban part of the state is self-sustaining? We've seen that play out all over the country. To say revenue generated through knowledge-based industries is not real but farming is? That's funny coming from a rural region that happily takes that revenue in the form of benefits and services. Three STATES formed a Climate Alliance. Washington, California and New York. If a rural part of a state wants to go pay for itself, by all means, it should. The rest of the state could concentrate its revenue on it's own needs rather than sending it to the rural half.

Renewable energy is not the way to go. Solar Photovoltaic panels and Wind Turbines take more energy to produce and maintain than you ever get out of them in their lifetime. That's not to mention the toxic byproducts from Solar Photovoltaic that you're force to dump when you're done.

The only clean energy is the energy you don't use. Don't believe me? Go take a class on renewable energy engineering. The industry does a good job obfuscating actual energy production numbers, which in turn skews the Energy Return on Energy Invested ratio, and most people don't like math enough to go and figure it out themselves.

Then you get a whole bunch of people talking how great it is that you can "Make your money back on solar in 20 years"*

*after government subsidies

Hydro is not clean.

Hydro is "relatively clean"

Hydro heats up the water and kills marine flora and fauna. They'll all get a lot more expensive here pretty soon when silt deposits block the turbine inlets.

98% of the viable hydro in the US is already in use, too, so it's not much of a future growth benefit

There was post here after the election suggesting we divide the country up into "Trumpland" and "Clintonland". Trumpland would consist of the farms, coal mines, gas wells, oil wells, power plants, etc etc.

Clintonland gets the nice shiny office tower with a bunch of pencil pushers that now have nothing to push their pencil about.
