During the primaries he crowed about his poll numbers and berated others for theirs.

He is very ratings conscious, and sometimes uses ratings as an insult (ratings, in case anyone is unaware, are polls).

He is fixated upon crowd sizes, he is angered when the media shows empty seats at his rallies, and of course there was that big kerfuffle about his inauguration draw and the pictures which disproved his claims.

Trump cares about what people think. To him perception is reality, and changing the perception can change the reality. That's Napoleon Hill stuff. This is why he tries to inoculate his base from the bad news by insulting the journalists and calling it fake, it is mind control. He wants his followers to believe his concoctions and if they do, they reflect that back to him and it becomes the alternative reality he needs to insulate himself from criticism.

Trump cares about polls beyond a doubt, and he is painfully aware of his flagging popularity, it invades his space and punctures his illusions.

Very eloquently stated and right on target.

Gallup polls the population. Read their methodology.

Yeah I'm sure Trump is completely unaffected by poll numbers.
He's well known for not thinking about himself or how popular he is.

And this is before the news of #MuellerMonday hit.

Time for "EXTREME VETTING" of our Presidential candidates and then this doesn't happen!

From an electoral standpoint, Trump's support among those not eligible or not inclined to vote is irrelevant. There is a good chance that much of his disapproval is among (a) non-voters, and (b) located in strongly blue states such as California. When limited to likely voters in the critical swing states, his approval rating may be considerably higher.

The 538 site has been graphing President Trump's popularity against the other presidents since Truman.

Trump is far behind all other presidents except for President Ford, and Trump's popularity is mirroring Ford's after Ford pardoned Nixon.

Worst. Popularity. Ever.

Ford's approval picked up in the months and years after his Nixon pardon. People recognized that he was basically a decent guy and he grew into the office. He was likable and it was evident he cared about the USA.

It would take a minor miracle for tRump to see any gains. He's obviously a slow learner and hasn't picked up on any of the skills he'd need in order to be a real president. The reason such a large majority oppose him is because he stubbornly keeps doing and saying anything he can to reveal his lack of knowledge, intellect, and competence.

He's utterly bereft of anything resembling leadership and it shows like a beacon every time he makes remarks.

But he has been VERY amusing.

I suspect the reason is his proposed Moscow casino/hotel or some undisclosed loans, but in any case, I'm heartened to know most Americans have a more realistic view of Putin and Russia.

The biggest problem I have with all this is that we won't have the balls to respond in kind when Russia has their next election. If it wasn't for Trump sucking up to Putin, we might have had a chance to effect their election by helping a pro-democratic Russian candidate...

Nah, we will never have the chance to support a pro democratic candidate in Russia. Read about how Putin destroyed the free press. Think of Fox and Hannity being our only source of news as RT is to Putin. Or if Trump has his way and deregulates the FCC and paves the way for conservative Sinclair media to monopolize the air waves. Control the press, control the rubes. Add to the mix a dictator that kills and jails opponents, and you will never have a democratic Russia.

I hope you're right about most people knowing about how dangerous it is to our way of life to have Putin infiltrating our elections. I've read comments here about not caring about a Trump Putin connection and how myopic it is to see only one issue such as jobs. Talk about low information. Putin is an evil man and only wants to see our country divided and marginalized.
