I was thinking about this. So now Comey has testified, we have two possibilities:
1. Trump lied about there being tapes. This would indicate he lied in a attempt to intimidate Comey. This would look bad from a obstruction/Abuse of authority sort of thing.

2. Trump has tapes of his conversations. And they are all about to be subpoenaed.

Either result is bad for Trump.

Comey:
Quote:
"It never occurred to me before the president's tweet," he said. "I'm not being facetious. I hope there are, and I'll consent to the release of them ... All I can do is hope. The president knows if he taped me, and if he did, my feelings aren't hurt. Release all the tapes. I'm good with it."
Schumer has already weighed in:
Quote:
"It's awfully curious that no one from the president's team will either confirm or deny the existence of the tapes when the tapes are the only way to prove that Mr. Comey's testimony, which came under oath, are false or misleading,"
And destroying them? Against the law. Under the Presidential Records Act, recordings between the president and a senior government official that occur in the White House are not private recordings, they are presidential records that will eventually be released to the public. Even better? Destroying them would in fact be a obstruction of justice issue-ie if Comey perjured himself, destroying them would in fact be a obstruction of justice. LOL.

So if they exist, they will be demanded. Refusing to hand them over? That was one of the articles of impeachment against Nixon. Destroying them? Against the law, AND obstruction of justice.

If they dont exist? Then witness intimidation.

Now lets be honest, if they dont exist then it just makes Trump look like the bully and liar that he is. And thats the best case now.

Interesting point here. If he had tapes and destroyed them, that's definitely a smoking gun. However, I am not sure his tweet about tapes would be grounds for impeachment if the tapes do in fact not exist. Is it alarming? Yes, it is, like many of the other actions of this President. However, would it legally meet grounds of witness intimidation and could Trump actually be impeached for that?

The tweet was clearly helpful. It got Comey to finally admit Trump was never under investigation.

Your thread is a complete fail.

You start of with a lie. Trump never said there were tapes, he said Comey better hope there aren't tapes.

Also, it's believed that it was Comey that was recording the conversation, and those tapes are now sitting in Jeff Sessions' office.

Trump didn't threaten anyone, he told Comey don't lie, or his lies could be contradicted.

The demented are really getting desperate as their hopes of impeachment are being destroyed by the truth, you know, that there is no evidence to back any of these ridiculous claims.

Actually IF there are tapes and they are subpoenaed and trump or his minions destroy them, it would be a crime and would lead to trump being impeached and most likely removed from office. Do not underestimate the stupidity coming out of the WH these days, when you think you have seen it all they out do themselves with even greater stupidity.

Ya, elections have consequences.....

Trump has all the power at his fingertips to shutdown any and all investigations by the FBI, CIA and all the alphabet agencies that under his sole discretion, by the power congress gave him long ago, when they gave up their power to the Presidency.
Obama did it dozens of times with both Holder and Lynch. Comey provided testimony that Lynch shut down the Clinton deal. So, he perjured himself right there.

Then on top of that, he can use the power of the pardon to completely silence the probe.
Congress can do what they want, but it is not impeachable, or anything that can remove the president.
Trump is now starting to turn the corner, on his way to bring it home.

Come on Bannon! What a good hire.

And you demonstrate that you do not understand what "high crimes and misdemeanors" are. They arent felonies or misdemeanors, although they CAN be. Abuse of power is a high crime and misdemeanor. And that would be abuse of power, and....eligible for impeachment.

Impeachment DOES NOT require a crime.

As Trump is the paranoid type I would think he tapes everything. The WH not saying if he does or doesn't also makes me think he does. He wouldn't show them because they will make him the liar.

Don't make yourself look silly.......we all know that what Trump did in that tweet was give a veiled threat to Comey to try to make him go away quietly. But, as with everything Trump does, it was not thought through, and it backfired on him. If they do exist, they will show word for word how Trump tried to influence Comey to stop the investigation.

We can tolerate only so much blindness from you Trumpees, and then it gets ridiculous.

So has anyone noticed something odd?

During the campaign, Trump said a lot of outrageous, obnoxious things--many outright lies.

And at that time, his apologists all defended him by saying--you cannot take Trump 'literally'. It is hyperbole, it is not what he really meant...ad nauseum. I'm sure there are plenty of those comments right here on this forum.

Now what are we hearing from the same apologists?

"Trump said he 'hoped' Comey would drop the Flynn investigation.

"Trump said Comey better 'hope' there are no tapes."

So now, now, we are supposed to take Trump extremely literally in order for his cult to obfuscate the fact that he absolutely was directing Comey to drop the Flynn investigation.

And now we are supposed to take him literally when he childishly, but directly, threatens Comey with tapes about which he may or may not be lying.

The great thing about the Trump loyalist, defenders, apologists, interpreters is that they simply change the Trump explanation to fit their agenda.

No matter what, only the Trump whisperers know what he really meant.
