Hobby Lobby, et al, won their case at SCOTUS for exactly the same reason.
I am surprised I hadn't heard of this. It actually shocks me. That ruling leaves the door open for so many businesses to claim religious exemptions and refuse to pay for many medical things that went against their beliefs. For example: If it was a business owned by Jehovah's Witnesses, they could claim religious exemptions because they don't believe in blood transfusions. If it was a scientologist owned business, they could use this ruling to get out of paying for mental health care.
And in this day and age, people could claim religious exemptions for just about anything they wanted to. People are creating and opening churches for just about anything.
The legal argument that the baker can't practice his religion if he has to bake a cake for a gay wedding is saying that practicing religion outweighs civil rights.
Well, we'll see what the Supreme Court has to say on this.
Sad, really, that you have so little disregard for history.
