The American's Creed is the official creed of the United States of America. It was written in 1917 by William Tyler Page as an entry into a patriotic contest. It was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives the next year.

The text of the American's Creed is:
I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the People, by the People, for the People; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; A democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many Sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of Freedom, Equality, Justice, and Humanity for which American Patriots sacrificed their Lives and Fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to Love it; to Support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to Respect its Flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
had a fuzzy warm chill reading it.I still get watery eyed when I hear the song "America the beautiful" and the anthem.Taps,I become a fountain...yes grown men cry, damn skippy.
The only thing that hurts is reading it and realizing how much we need to get back to our roots as it says.

If by "fit" you mean it is a reality, then, no it doesn't.
If by "fit" you mean it should be reality, then no, it should not. Why? Its claims are unsubstantiated. Its lofty goals are indeed worth supporting, but the way it's written is emotionally charged and pits anyone who disagrees with it against others. It is not a unifying statement when it claims our union to be "perfect"--according to whose standards? It elevates the U.S. to a place above criticism and improvement, as if it is sacred. America is only as good as its human (i.e., fallible) inhabitants.
The creed needs improvement and updating. Anything demanding me to love it and obey it can hardly claim freedom as an ideal.

If it doesn't, it should! It is such a disillusionment that we cannot be united in defending our country. There may be many circumstances that cause disagreement among us. However, I do think that the enemies of the United States, applaud when we show our division so blatantly as we do. Why is it so hard to agree to disagree but at the same time, keep it within the family, so to speak?
Are we afraid that we might be looked upon as being weak if we stand up for our country? Sure, there are problems with America, but nothing that justifies the violence among ourselves. My head is not buried in the sand. I am just tired of all of the rhetoric demeaning our country.

I agree with you.
