The UK is working on a new method to transplant a uterus into biological males. The goal is to help transgendered people have babies. It could also allow gay and single men to have babies. The procedure might be funded by the UK national health system. A great step forward.
Instead of going through all this trouble playing mad scientist, why don't they just talk to women who are considering abortion about paying her medical expenses in exchange for adopting her baby when she has it? Or, adopt a child that is in an orphanage?

Womb/Uterus transplants have been tried several times, first in 1931, and they are generally not successful, and the body tries to reject them whether a man or a woman.
And if successful, they only last about 2 years before immune system rejection, and require the person to take immune suppressors the whole time

The same question could be asked of the straight couples who spend tens of thousands of dollars on fertility treatments and options like surrogate pregnancies.
Many people demand a kid who has their genes. Doesn't make sense to me either, but there you go.
The upside to this is that in learning how to meet that demand, medical research has progressed by leaps and bounds, and overall that helps everyone. It simply cannot be a bad thing to learn how reproduction works, and to learn it so well and in such detail that transplanting uteri can be seriously contemplated.
Cant find a cure for cancer. Cant find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Cant find a cure for type 2 diabetes. Cant find a cure for HIV. Cant find a cure for Huntingtons disease. Cant find a cure for Sickle Cell. Cant find a cure for Alzheimers disease. Cant find a cure for Lou Gherigs disease.
But they can sure waste millions of tax dollars to satisfy 0.2% of the population who's "disorder" doesnt even need a cure. Yay modern medicine.

The same could be said for couples who choose fertility treatment over adoption. It sounds like these UK doctors have made progress.

The market for treating those diseases is far greater than the market for a cure. Treatment for men who want to have a baby has no current market.
