The VA is not a single payer plan, so that is that for that. You are talking Elective surgery, how about we look at how many people in Canada or Europe file for bankruptcy due to overwhelming medical bills. While you are at it look up how the US before Obamacare, heck even with it, stacked up against the healthcare provided in single payer systems, we were the most expensive and not the best rated. Not to worry, the Repubs are going to kill Obamacare, eventually, maybe, and install a new system, one where only the young and very healthy and the rich will be able to afford any sort of viable coverage, the rest up us will just be screwed.
