Until the United States constitution is amended that states bills and coins are legal tender for all debts, I will continue to pay in cash when ever I want.
If a business refuses to take my cash, they won't be paid at all, and that includes restaurants.
Sue me, and see who wins that case.
With the constitution behind me, I would be the winner in any lawsuit.

The constitution says nothing about personal checks, money orders, cashier checks, or credit/debit cards being legal tender.
The term being used in the constitution is "Bills, and Coins".

Bob.

Those are limited to smaller banks and to credit unions.

Perhaps it is inevitable, but I have an issue paying to use my money.

What's the likelihood of Congress eliminating fees on debit cards?

Slim to none. If Visa starts making deals like this, others will follow.

Eventually, all debit cards will have fees attached, with fewer places taking cash. It's the old bait 'n switch we just accept and complain over, but feel powerless to do anything about.

Think cable back in the day promising NO commercials.

Imagine things like health insurance refusing to pay out because you're on record buying unhealthy foods or a bitter ex wife using a father's alcohol purchases to convince the courts to take custody away from him. Use your imagination and you can come up with any number of scenarios. Some of this could be done even now but at least we still have ways to go under the radar if we want to.

Right. This is a bigger problem than just Visa.

There had better be huge signs out front "WE DO NOT ACCEPT CASH". We will see how well it goes over.

Some of our local businesses give a discount for cash.5 cents a gallon for cash. It is cheaper for them that the card fee that they get charged. Most of the gas stations do. Some of the restaurants don't even take cards.

Am I reading you correct?

You are going to knowingly sit down in a restaurant that has a big sign saying "no cash", eat, then challenge them on their no cash policy?

Look, cards, digital money and now bitcoins are way to control population. Cash - not so, unless they will have tracking in each banknote. So it is crystal clear why they don't want cash to be used at all.
