“I think right now most Democrats are trying to focus on the 2018 elections and trying to recruit people and keep incumbents, and you know I would say we have a pretty good chance of taking the House back. The Senate is very, very difficult,” Carville told John Catsimatidis on AM 970 in New York.

“The problem in the Senate is we have a large number of seats we have to hold in states that Donald Trump carried. Indiana, Missouri, you know, places like that we have to hold seats,” Carville added.

Carville remained doubtful that Democrats would be able to pick up new seats typically in Republican strongholds.

“The only places where we have an opportunity for pick up are, you know, Nevada is pretty good. After that Arizona is less good, then you’re down to Texas and Alabama, and for Democrats to win the Senate back, they have to pick up three seats,” Carville said.

about ironic. Before the 2016 election, Jimmy was babbling on about a "Democrat ascendancy that will last 40 years...."
That's why I love this headline so much.

James Carville: Dems Face an Uphill Battle if They Want to Win Back the Senate in 2018 - Breitbart

also. i doubt they will even win back the House

25 Dems, if you count the two independents, 8 Repubs standing for reelection. Not good numbers to start out. Can be done, but will take yuge effort, beaucoup of money and turnout by Dems. Really think the last will be key. That and is all of noise just a few loud gongs or symptomatic of a groundswell of support for Dems. Not sure being against, hating, despising is enough. But, maybe it is.

Carville is very smart but also an unhinged crackpot so I don't know how that all nets out.

On this, he seems to be right. Reasons include ones given above (the sheer numbers are bad) but also they have too many lunatics in that party. Maxine Waters!!, goof-ball Schumer, Pelosi is utterly off her rocker and losing memory rapidly, the list goes on.

** Most importantly - their current fundamental values don't stand the test of time. They used to have some noble causes and motivations, they don't anymore. Toast. Burnt toast.

2018 will see GOP add to its Senate majority.

2016 was the Dems big opportunity to take the Senate, and they under achieved big time.

Yeah, but with all the from GOP gerrymandered districts, Trump won't be able to do much.

Face it: the "Freedom Caucus" in the house and the Cruz types in the Senate are a PITA to work with.

But hey, continue to vote for all those corrupt a-holes. Just don't blame others for not getting anything done.

I love gridlock. Detest activist government. This is perfect. ACA within 1-2 years will be toast on its own, and from a political standpoint, that's the easiest path to take. I suspect McConnell knowing that is pushing out the vote, knowing as more big insurers actually leave, a vote isn't needed. Just watch it implode.

At that point, work can start on a Free Market only based plan.

True, he also means Democrats can't win unless they pay him for advice.
