America loves corrupt countries, they're so easy to deal with.
America loves meddling in South America as much as it loves meddling in Asia, both with unexpected results.

Let's just let Venezuela take care of themselves.

Any US interference just gives the leadership a scapegoat for all their self-inflicted economic woes.

Chavez & friends have spent years essentially seizing foreign assets as well as domestic assets like going into stores before elections and forcing them to sell at 90% off to the masses.

Asset theft is not a "growth strategy" for a country.

That's not really how VZ rolls. Venezuela government is an unholy combination of wealthy businessman, wealthy bureaucrats and wealthy military generals. They want nothing to do with the CIA.

VZ can't take care of itself anymore, but they don't want American help...Chavez poisoned that well. Unfortunately, don't be surprised to see the Chinese step in...they have their fingers deep into the VZ government.

There is not the slightest chance that Venezuela will be left to sort it out themselves.
They have important natural resources, OIL being the biggest.

The USA simply does not let any other country (China, maybe) gain control in countries that have such important resources.
And, we have the best equipped means for "managing" these situations.... and doing so quietly.
(None of what I say implies that I support those means)

P.S. Saw Dockside's comment after this posted. Yes, those Chinese...gotta watch 'em. Don't count out the USA for above reasons.

Not me. The Chinese would love to station their navy here.

They'd have access to an enormous oil refinery, the riches of Lake Maracaibo and full access to the Gulf of Mexico.
