And I remember the flack he got from the left for saying that..Boy how times have changed...
A 'less government, less government spending' conservative whose 'great' plan to defeat the 'evil empire' was to outspend them deserved all the flak he got.
Wow...i'm shocked the snowflakes are really Macho men inside...though Interesting mention Global Warming/climate change and they all turn back into snowflakes. Any Psychologists out there that can answer why.
Snowflakes are the ones who bow to Russia, so they don't hurts us.
All you got is 5 decade old comments about "lefties" and some nonsense about global warming?
Let's get back to all that talk about being nice to Putin so he doesn't hurts us. Should we say "please" real nicely?
Fill us in on your armchair psychology. What do they say about guys who bow to authoritarianism , instead of fighting back? Mommy issues?
No, I do not remember. Do you have some quotes? Reagan won even the most blue States, so he was quite popular among both parties.
It is ironic Reagan called them the evil empire and today the GOP can't stop humping the Russian leg.
I think what he is referring to when he says "constantly attacked", is that the left probably was rightly critical of such provocative language. Back then, we all knew they were the enemy, which means it was very different times than now, but I assume "constantly attacked" means that somebody probably said "Hey, do we really want to go out on the World-Stage and provoke our greatest superpower enemy with language like that?
To the right, if you disagree with them, it can only mean one of three things:
1. You are constantly attacking them, and trying to shut down their 1a
2. You are weak, and afraid to pick a fight
3. You hate America, and are an enemy sympathizer.
Concepts like nuance are not within these peoples realm of understanding.
Please provide some proof to back up that claim. The other day Dems were accused of being war mongers for opposing communism in Vietnam, and today its another story.
Pick a line and stick with it, unless you want to come across like a partisan hack who will say anything that suits the mood.
The difference between the Dems now vs. the Dems in the 80s, is that in the 80s, half of them were moderates on various issues & actually worked across the aisle for the good of the country on key issues.
But the "commie left" faction existed in the 80s & even discussed impeachment of Reagan for military & covert actions taken in Grenada, El Salvador and Nicaragua. Why in the heck should people provide "proof" of events that is recent US History....probably better that those who are clueless not post on the political board.

You know those Reagan supporters still believe that nonsense. The CIA , which is the only source that knows about Soviet arms build ups, reported many years ago that the USSR never responded to Reagan's debt tripling by spending any more on defense during that period. Just another myth for the naive to hang on to.
And where the heck is that "Star Wars Missile" shield anyhow? Ooops.
