You're right. The kids are not there to satisfy a political agenda or participate in a political rally.
The BSA statement should have addressed this matter in some fashion, expressed apology as well as the determination to avoid this in the future.
Instead, they sent out a vague statement that didn't amount to anything.
If our sons were part of booing Obama and cheering getting rid of health care for millions, we would be seeking other character building opportunities today as this one has gone awry.
I wish the BSA would, too, but I also understand the awkward position in which the national organization finds itself. Our family will not be leaving Scouts. It has been a part of our family's lives for several generations now, and we will stick with it. We believe it's better to work from the inside to effect change than to abandon ship when the going gets tough. I want Scouts to be around for my grandchildren, and that will be long after Trump is but a memory. As for how to handle what happened at Jamboree, our troop is planning briefly to address what happened, emphasizing our shared commitment to civic behavior and Scouting values no matter what our personal political beliefs. And then we'll go about doing what we do best: having fun and learning together through our mutual love of the outdoors.
Via video?
Are you seriously equating appearing on a video to being there live?
A video address is a slap in the face.
Especially when you are on "the view" instead.
Surreal.
Yes. In case you haven't noticed, we live in the 21st century now and lots of things happen via video. Smart, capable people take advantage of technology to get multiple things accomplished.
Talking about a rich old fart cavorting on his yacht to a group of Boy Scouts is disgusting. And calling out your political opponents to the same group is revolting and un-American. I'm surprised he didn't talk about grabbing ***** while he was at it.

Which is exactly the statement the BSA leadership needs to put out.
Importance of moral/ethical civic behavior.
Shared commitment to Scouting values regardless of political believes.
Back to campfires and hiking and kayaking and helping others out.

This is why there has been such a tepid response from the BSA:
Boy Scouts president has 85 billion reasons to excuse Trump’s wildly inappropriate Jamboree speech
Quote:
"The president of the Boy Scouts of America has tens of billions of reasons to not more forcefully criticize the president’s speech at the Jamboree, as it could hurt his chances of getting his company’s mega-merger approved.
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson became the president of the BSA just over a year ago, and at the moment he is seeking approval from the Trump administration to sign off on a proposed $85 billion acquisition of media company Time Warner, Inc."

You know what's surreal?
Ignoring the content of Obama's video and embracing a speech by a sitting president to young boys and men recounting sexual encounters on a yacht on its way to a place nicknamed "Rape Island."
Trump! Yikesssssss how did he win?
Telling lies! The man is ________________
I am sure the BSA were sorry in the end.
Poor kids!
They had to listen to his BS...

No, the BSA should not have done anything of the sort. The BSA is not there to satisfy your political agenda, either.
Any official response would have put them into a political position that they don't want to be in, nor should be in.
Trump was out of line.
Their best option was to pretend it didn't happen and get the kids back on track in the Jamboree mindset (which actually probably took only ten minutes after Trump shut up) and otherwise not give this any more attention than necessary.
