That is the thing. When the left says that merit based immigration is racist for favoring highly educated people they themselves are implying that non-whites are stupid and ill educated.
I don't either except race and cultures are not just skin colors.

White ancestral European. There should be national origins quotas based on the 1960 or 1970 census at least. If an Asian, MENA, African etc emigrates to the US from say Europe they would count against the quota for their ancestral/nationality group they most match and identify with. And we should restrict immigration to Western, allied and friendly nations.
The point is to not upset and change the long standing racial and demographic balance that 50 years of the 1965 Immigration Act and amendments thereof did and were falsely promised not to do when they were passed.

It makes sense since it would roughly be based on the US demographics but the late 20th Century. Immigration should not be used to socially engineer demographic change.
If we stop illegal immigration and halve legal immigration, the net effect will be that we will start declining in population, because immigration is the only reason that we are growing now. That means we will have fewer young workers paying taxes supporting an increasing number of retirees.
As far as changing the racial mix, all of the white ethnic countries are losing population now anyway, so there's unlikely to be a huge uptick in white immigration, and even if there was, it would probably not be enough to offset the natural drop in overall white population due to aging. It might slow the process a tad, but not reverse it.
Attached is an item that will send the "racial identity" voters of this forum in a tizzy. A 40 year study has found a 59% drop in sperm count among men of Western nations. I fully expect some genius to attribute this to some lib'rul gub'ment plot by Democrats, Conmanists or radical lesbians to somehow pollute our "precious bodily fluids" (shout out to the late, great, Sterling Hayden's portrayal of the paranoid General Jack D. Ripper in 1964's Dr. Strangelove).
