Noam Chomsky (famous leftist utopianist) says the two most important threats to our civilization are nuclear war and climate change. And of course he thinks the Republicans love nuclear war and climate change, so everyone should vote Democrat.
I agree nuclear war and climate change (or, more generally, our trashing of the planet) are major threats. But I do NOT agree that Democrats have any better solutions than Republicans.
Democrats seem to think they are doing their part to save the planet by driving a hybrid car.
No, even if every person on earth drives a hybrid car, that will not stop climate change.
The same Democrat who turns purple and screams about the evil Republicans who don't care about the environment -- that same Democrat will NOT cancel their vacation that requires air travel (a very major contributer to pollution).
Furthermore -- that same Democrat would NEVER say that people in developing countries should be prevented from getting cars, computers, all the modern conveniences and luxuries. But, just think about it -- when all those many millions of people start living like us, what happens to the ozone layer and polar ice caps and sea level?
I have not heard any Democrats mention that. I don't think Chomsky thought about it.
And WHY should we trust Democrats to prevent nuclear war? Because Democrats are just more peaceful and nice? Because they are more intelligent?
First of all, they claim to be nicer and more intelligent, but anyone can say that about themselves. And, beyond that -- NO ONE knows how to prevent nuclear war. There just is no simple answer to the problem.
Some nations are allowed to have nuclear weapons but others aren't. WHY? And we have no good way to stop anyone getting them.
How many terrorists are secretly making small nuclear weapons? How could we prevent that?
Not to mention genetically engineered bio-weapons, and who knows what else.
I guess it makes Democrats feel safe to think they can save the planet simply by driving hybrid cars and voting against Republicans.
