This is why we don't give generals the power to make war and peace. It's the President's responsibility to decide on our geopolitical strategy.

We are recommitting to a war without goals or hope of success--at least no goals that a President or defense chief will advocate publicly. This speech didn't say much except that we will never leave Afghsnistan even though nobody thinks we will achieve anything there that can be sustained without the continued presence of US troops.. Most ridiculous of all is Trump trying to tie ISIS to Afghanistan. Syria and Iraq are, indeed, different countries. The answer is long overdue: leave. Instead,Trump dances around the idea of formally adding Pakistan as an Area of Operations while encouraging India to get involved. This will not end.

so you want to cut and run and damn the consequences because we will deal with it later when the region blows up.

India has to get involved....you think Al Qaeda and ISIS don't want to expand and create a world war?

you are very naive.....of course this will not end, you think if we cut and run it will end?.....its going to be another massive refugee crisis that we have to deal with and take them in......do you have any idea who are we dealing with and your answer is just cut and run and pretend everything will be fine?

Yes, I want to cut and run. Absolutely. Why? Because it's the right thing to do.

And yes, everything will be just fine. No doubt.

I'm confused. Did you have a problem with all this and still vote for him when he suggested we would be pulling out entirely? Why was it not important then and so very important now?

I think you're on the money. They've isolated him with Jared, Ivanka, and a whole host of neocons.

I suspect while others may be correct about the poppies, there is also some kind of Syria angle to this also. But they will never recapture Syria, oust Assad, and defeat the Russians. It's futile.

All the trucks and weapons destroyed in that video were almost assuredly paid for with US taxpayer money

Nope.

The military-industrial complex loves war.

As long as we invade and occupy nations, the fight to throw us out of there will continue.

Damn you Cheney.

There's a positive side too :

It shows by reading this thread that many are aware of the fact and quickly recognize that not only is our government inauspiciously corrupt, but there's clearly a shadow element hiding in the background using every method necasary to impose its will.

I agree with the many aware, but that's it. The rest is for the conspiracy types. POTUS just lied again.

In the past Trump has called the Afghan war a waste of money and called for the USA to get out of that conflict, now in an obvious hypocritical flip flop he is sending troops back into the country

Another grand deflection or some one who hasnt a clue what he is doing?.
