It's also my instinct to complete get out of the middle east but, like Trump, I'm not a military or tactical expert and would probably defer to my Generals as well. I'm not mad at Trump over this yet but I might be mad at the Generals if it goes on and on. Time will tell. And hopefully this will be the thing that gets the GOP establishment to get thing moving on his other issues, like confirming some judges and whatnot. I'm tired of the inaction.
This is why we don't give generals the power to make war and peace. It's the President's responsibility to decide on our geopolitical strategy.
We are recommitting to a war without goals or hope of success--at least no goals that a President or defense chief will advocate publicly. This speech didn't say much except that we will never leave Afghsnistan even though nobody thinks we will achieve anything there that can be sustained without the continued presence of US troops.. Most ridiculous of all is Trump trying to tie ISIS to Afghanistan. Syria and Iraq are, indeed, different countries. The answer is long overdue: leave. Instead,Trump dances around the idea of formally adding Pakistan as an Area of Operations while encouraging India to get involved. This will not end.

I'm confused. Did you have a problem with all this and still vote for him when he suggested we would be pulling out entirely? Why was it not important then and so very important now?
Watch, you won't hear a word about the Russia story for a while because Trump has shown he is willing to play ball on the Big Agenda items. When he bombed Syria the Russia story went away for the first time in a long time, only to come back when he started to show signs of acting independently again. The trumped up Russia collusion story is what the deep state, or the establishment or whatever you want to call them use to keep Trump in check. Do what we say or we'll turn the heat up again. Who knows what Mueller could find? Maybe something...maybe nothing. Stick with the program and maybe we can make it go away.

In the past Trump has called the Afghan war a waste of money and called for the USA to get out of that conflict,now in an obvious hypocritical flip flop he is sending troops back into the country
