The capital is Washington DC.
The Capitol is the domed building in Washington DC that houses Congress.

From the article linked in the OP:
Quote:
“I would support changing the American flag as well. America is based on a lot of mass killings and slavery and the history is just – look at the Germans, they own up to the Holocaust, nobody is proud of their history. Americans, at least, you should not be proud of any mass killing. You should not be proud of anything wrong that’s been done in the past or any symbols that represent that and that’s all.”
You can't even make a joke anymore, before finding out that some Democrat fanatic is already trying to make it fact.

The Democrats are truly desperate to conceal their own history of keeping slaves, forming and populating the Ku Klux Klan, and even today pushing for legislation treating blacks as inferior people who can't make it without massive government help, while proposing no such legislation for whites.

District of Columbia residents and tourists weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Confederate flag, some saying the nation should go as far as renaming Washington, D.C.

CNN anchor Don Lemon recently floated the idea of re-thinking the Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, since he was a slave owner.

“There may come a day when we want to re-think Jefferson, I don’t know if we should do that, but when we get to that point, I’ll be happy to partake in that particular discussion,” Lemon said.

“It should come down,” one D.C. resident told PJ Media, referencing the Jefferson Memorial in Washington.
“If we do that, though, George Washington owned slaves. Should we rename Washington, D.C.?” he was asked.

“You have to draw the line at some point, I guess, maybe take a poll across the country and see what people think about it and if they want to rename the city, do it,” he said. “I would support changing the American flag as well. America is based on a lot of mass killings and slavery."
Yeah and more much ado over nothing courtesy the chuckleheads on the right.

If you'd stop sputtering in your own bile and watch your own link, you'd notice that no one who responded to the PJ Media reporter was either asked for or volunteered their party affiliation. The fist speaker was a very eloquent young black man who was asked about banning the display of the Confederate flag. He replied that the flag's display probably should be prohibited, but added that "That's really not what it's about, anyway." When asked to explain, he in effect replied that it's about working to have true equality between the races

HEADLINE!

Black youth says he strives for greater equality for all. Lynching at 7:00!

I'm getting very fed up with the sly undertone of racism that some display on this forum. If Washington DC were to be renamed, why would the name of black commentator and activist Al Sharpton be chosen? Why not name it Geronimo City to reflect the values and respect for the earth that Native Americans are sometimes thought to represent? Why not name it for the sake of Swiss-Americans - WilliamTellington?

But hey - if we're going to look for Black Americans to honor, here's a few of my suggestions:

Washington D.Z. - short for Denzel
Booker T. Washington
Malcolm X-ington
Stevie Wonder-town
Don’t like Robert E.? How about SPIKE Lee?
Oprahopolis
Jimitown –in honor of Hendrix
Muhammadville where you float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, Ali.

You people are losing it big time.
