Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounded like the local authorities were the ones well prepared and responsive, as it should be, not the WH. The credit goes to them as well as the residents who paid attention and did whatever they could in advance. About all the upper echelons would be doing is signing checks.
Yes it's called working together and we appreciate anyone who is helping no matter what their task, and yes OP, that includes Trump being on it. Obviously the liberal media didn't inform you.
Visiting a disaster area is a photo op. If the VIP shows up people are supposed to feel valued? Well, maybe, but if they don't, they look bad and that's what its really about. Image. VIP visits take valuable time, money, and effort away from what really needs attention...helping local folks recover as quickly as possible. I've never seen the need for bigwigs visiting, shaking hands, looking vaguely concerned, hugging kids, and the rest of it. Give the praise to the local planners/rescue workers, emergency agencies. They are the ones who do the work.
It all depends on whether the VIP is a Democrat or a Republican. If it's a Democrat, they're praised for their leadership by showing up and surveying the situation in person to make sure it's being taken care of, and praised for their restraint for staying out of the way and letting the people on the ground deal with the situation if they don't. If it's a Republican, they're excoriated for opportunistic grandstanding if they show up and excoriated for their lack of leadership if they leave it to the people on the ground to deal with the situation.
Could this fool be anymore tasteless , classless, or graceless by popping out tweets about killing Nafta, Sheriff Clarke's Book, upcoming trip to Missouri (he won big there - we'll defeat McCaskill in 2018), Mexico will eventually pay for the wall. yada yada yada.
This, while Houston a major American City, and the entire coastal region of Texas is being pounded by epic rains and scenes of people being rescued off rooftops and others wading in waist deep water trying to figure out their fate, and others are dead.
This guy needs to be muzzled by his generals and told to shut the FU, and direct his attention and power of his office to the disaster unfolding right before him!

Just like his nonsensical off the subject hateful tweets that was the subject of this thread in the first place. They were out of place given what is occurring in Texas and he should close them down. Good to know he is going to Texas but for him more of a photo op, and to make this tragedy about him and not the people suffering.

wilful, you accuse Trump of going to TX for a photo op, but if he didn't go, you'd go off on him for that. In other words, you're unreasonable and high maintenance and will never be happy.
What's happening in TX is a regional disaster and is but one of many things the rest of us expect the President to be focusing on. It is not the most important issue facing the US right now. FEMA and others for whom it is the most important issue that they face are on it.
Perhaps the OP should get out and help his neighbors in TX rather than spend his time on this forum ranting.

So, President Trump has the ability to stop a hurricane and failed to do that? If so, I could no longer support him. Is he the only president that has this special power and didn't use it? I don't remember any president stopping a hurricane.
People choose to live in areas where hurricanes are a threat. We used to live in two different ones. We don't live there anymore.
It is unfortunate, but I was in AL when the big one hit the area. People were evacuated, some chose to stay. It was a mess. Can't imagine living in an area like that, but thinking Trump should somehow make it better?
