Let's get real here. What are the chances that that Puerto Rico with its crumbling infrastructure would have the hospitals that would be able to deal with a Cat 4 hurricane?

The port would be open by the time they got there.

If not, they could have ferried people out in helicopters.

Wake up.

Not staffing that boat and sending it out was a **** move. It could have sailed out in the gulf until the storm cleared.

When they saw that the entire island had lost power, they should have known immediately that they needed to get ready.

There is no logic or reason behind not getting that hospital ship ASAP.

Sending the Comfort may be a decision just made after they made their assessment of the destruction and figured out that the electric ain't coming on anytime soon.

The phone system is also shot (more infrastructure neglect) and they are going to be setting up a satellite phone service.

Who knew PR would end up like Haiti after the earthquake ?

It's not like there are no hospitals. There are hospitals and they are operating on generators and have been since after the hurricane passed.

Anyone with two wits to rub together.

It was a Cat 4 hurricane across an island with a crumbling infrastructure and homes made of sheets of tin.

Hurricane Maria still in the Atlantic directly in the path the Comfort has to transit. You don't voluntarily sail a ship into a category 2 or 2 storm.

I am talking to 5 year olds.

HURRICANE MARIA in the path the Comfort has to transit.

I said that two pages ago.

Critical thinking skills are lacking.

Apparently it takes several days to fully staff the thing. Had those staffers been alerted that Comfort was sailing as soon as the weather allowed, they'd be on their way now. Many of these staffers are civilians, BTW.
Which still isn't now due to where Maria is currently.
