Getting rid of cable because of politicized shows and sports? THAT'S what got you to cut the cord instead of the insane prices? Heh, I haven't even owned a TV since about 2003. Never looked back and don't really feel like I've missed anything.
Since it was first introduced somewhere around the early 1980's, we've never once had Cable or a Dish. We got by just fine with our trusty 'ol Antenna. And today, which most people don't even realize, the 'ol Antenna brings more TV than ever.
Now, not only did we not support shows and programs that we don't agree with, directly or indirectly, we saved a ton of money.
On the low side average, some where between $20,000 and $25,000.
The problem with this kind of boycotting/ protesting is, it never gets enough people involved to be anywhere close to effective or even noticed.
A cable company is not going to worry about one person or even a handful of people stopping their service, when its likely they have hundreds of new customers each month.
I think the main reason people do not get involved is the same reason they just sit back and accept other things, its just too inconvenient for them to do anything about it, when it comes to more important issues, they avoid taking any action because it may risk their job, income, house, etc. People today concerned more with their own lives than making something right or correcting some wrong. I do not think it got this way by accident though.
You should probably read more about the losses the cable companies have suffered over the past years.
Many have cut their cords (I did in 2014) because the costs are high, you pay for channels you don't want, you can find most of what you want to watch online, etc. I have long been trying to tell them that if they would allow people to "build a package" instead of making them pick between pre-built by the company, they would have more customers, and one company was considering it for a time, but still didn't quite get it. (Not saying they got the idea from me, otherwise they would have got it right.)
I cut it because I only watched a few of the channels out of all of the ones I had to get with the package, I was tired of 7 minutes of show, 5 minutes of commercial, another 7 minutes of show, another 5 minutes of commercial...God, enough with the non stop advertising. When cable came out, we paid for it so we didn't get ads. Now the ads are almost as long as the program.
The cable companies are hurting. Not because of this particular boycott, but the OP is actually cutting the cord for the reasons many have in the past - it's filled with shows they don't want to watch.
Thanks for politicizing everything. You have permanently lost a customer. Even though I dont have any sports or movies packages, I am still getting rid of basic cable because the award shows, late night comedy, sports events are turning into your political platform. You do not understand my middle class issues & your protests are against hardworking, struggling people like me. Hope you have enough paying customers who agree with your hateful rhetoric. Award shows used to be huge event with my friends but they are quickly turning into heated political debates so thanks for taking that away from me. Going to hang out with friends at coffee shops, go for a hike, visit the farmers market....rather than watching tv or movies with them.

Millionaires standing up for what they believe in is against your middle class lifestyle? Um... How?

Everyone should definitely remove themselves from situations that prove deleterious to their mental health.
Not sure how getting rid of cable because it's too political but remaining on this forum will help, but every little bit and all that, eh?
Sometimes I feel like I must be watching the wrong stuff on TV, since I rarely see this "politicized" programming that some speak of.
Maybe it's because I do have a sports package and tend to watch tennis most of the day.
Well, that, and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
