When wages are suppressed and they qualify for food stamps and EITC, it increases government spending and jacks up the poverty rates.

Raise the minimum wage to a living wage and the taxpayers will save billions because the working poor will no longer qualify for food stamps and EITC payments. The working poor will start paying taxes. It would help reduce government spending and the deficit.
No matter how many times or how many different ways you say or write this the people here don't get it.
This is exactly how the ruling class wants it. 18% of all food stamps are spent at Walmart. How much money did Walmart earn last year ? The year before ? The last ten years ?

If Walmart paid enough wages so their workers didn't need food stamps their sales would go down 18%. Kinda hard to make that up selling 2$ Chinese widgets.

Instead it trickles up to a few Walmart heirs.
It also employs 1.5 million Americans. In a few years, it will be far smaller in all likelihood due to Amazon, who will employ 10% of those fired by WM at the same basic wage level.

It has to be done, since Republicans pretty strongly feel that poor people some way, somehow must learn to wean themselves off government.

Your synopsis is ridiculous, it assumes all walmart employees receives food stamps and only walmart employees spend food stamps at their stores.

Maybe if the government didnt subsidize the employees through welfare, wal mart would have to pay higher wages to entice employees to work there..

Not so, very difficult to get Medicaid in states that did not expand. Mostly just children.

Where is the Pulosi / Schumer plan? They've had years to put one together.
It is called Obamacare. The bigger question: where is the Republican plan eight years in the making!

One little thing the Dems forgot.... How to fund the subsidies.

This is the dynamite that blows up Ocare. They just assumed Dems would be in power the next 20 years or so. oops

It sounds to me like you're the one who has "No idea what you're talking about."

Here's the breakdown of Medicaid expenditures. As you can see, children make up the majority. However, disabled cost the most, with elderly(nursing homes) being the 2nd most costly group, even though both these groups have the lowest number of enrollees.

19% of Medicaid's budget is spend on able bodied adults which might or might not be working or in school. Pregnant mothers and mothers of young children are included in that group. Forcing additional work rules might not impact the budget much at all, because the big budget expenditures are for disabled and elderly and they wouldn't be impacted by work/school rules. These groups cost the most because nursing homes can be $65k/year for Medicaid and because some disabled can require costly care, which Medicaid pays.

Why Medicaid Takes Up One-Tenth Of The Federal Budget : Shots - Health News : NPR

Medicaid Enrollment by Group
Children 43%
Adult 34%
Disabled 14%
Aged 9%

Percent of Medicaid Budget by Group
Children 19%
Adult 19%
Disabled 40%
Aged 21%
