Should there be a law against discriminating uniformed police officers and military personnel?

After reading about the Whataburger fiasco in Denison, Texas, where a cashier used her political "beliefs" to try to have power and control over a police officer by refusing to serve him, I thought, what if a protected class occurred, where a black person or a disabled person was refused service?

Police officers are human too. They go through a lot more in a day than the protesters will ever go through a lifetime.

Should it be illegal for hotels, restaurants, businesses to discriminate against police officers and military personnel?

Why or why not?

you shouldnt get special rights because of the costume you wear (or any other reason) The ultimate decision as to who is served by any private business should be the ownership...unfortunately this is not how it is in practice.

There are not enough people in the world to educate the dumb chits now. Who will teach them about this law?

There shouldn't be "protected classes" at all, and you have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason if you own the property/product/service you're selling.

No need. Let the businesses handle those employees. If they don't, let the free market work...it will work.

One rule for all, or no rule at all.

If businesses are allowed to refuse service for any reasons, then no one should be the protected class or cry discrimination.

If businesses are not allowed to refuse service based on sexual orientation, religious belief, gender, then no, they should not be allowed to refuse service based on people's career choices.

Military service and police = career choices. Nothing more.

Employee refused to serve police officer. Company fired employee because of their actions. I fail to see the issue here.

No thanks. We've lived in a police state since 9/11 and now the authoritarian right-wing wants more?

No. In the past, it was foreseen that they would not always be welcomed, so they would often get together and open up their own clubs and lodges just for the police/firefighters/medics and military. Maybe it's time to revisit that tradition.
