You would think they might consider that God created the universe.

God is the obvious explanation for everything that we don't understand.

Why is this in the politics section? Maybe move it to the religion section?

More importantly, what does the universe self-identify as?

I always wonder why people believe in the Big Bang theory, do people stop asking questions anymore... I never met something that just went "Bang" and it would have to be enormous in size given the composition of the universe... If energy cannot be created or destroyed and matter is a form of energy, where did that energy come from and why was there so much of it contained in a "Bang" object... why is there only one "Bang" object in the entire universe... I am not trying to promote religion as an answer but sometimes I wonder if people can't explain something, they make up stuff like the "Big Bang" to fill in the void... there are already competing theories that the Big Bang is false and none of them are religious but the media and people still hold on to the "Big Bang" as truth even if they don't really know...

Masses need an explanation, not reason. Whether Big Bang or holy Book. Nothing can be created at once.

Take it with a grain of salt. There is much they don't even know or understand yet.

Who says matter cannot be created instantly?

Are you familiar with fusion?

Fusion is more a change of state, rather than an apparation.

The idea the science is talking about here is it is believed there needs to be some form of imbalance at the quantum level for matter to exist, otherwise antimatter/matter annihilates in perfect symmetry. All they are saying is that as of yet, with the most precise measurements they can manage they cannot find any asymmetry between matter/antimatter. The headlines are sensationalized... there is still a massive amount we do no understand, dark matter, etc. I would also say that you could have a perfect balance of matter/antimatter but if you could sequester a particle of either somehow you could then have an unbalance for whatever duration that sequester holds in place, an example of a type of antimatter/matter sequestration would be the hypothesis of *hawking radiation.

The "Big Bang" theory mentioned earlier is empirically derived from observation, we know that at some point we moved from a singularity of some sort to an expanding universe via direct observation of cosmic background radiation. The quantum state imbalance (the thing they were unable to find) I mentioned in the last paragraph would be one possible trigger of such an event. Could be that someone turned on the computer running our simulation. Could be that some sort event happened on a multiversal level. Could be almost anything, all we know is that the "big bang" happened - before that is outside of our universal frame of reference.

*(Hawking Radiation is the hypothesis that it is indeed possible for matter or antimatter to be created from "nothing" on the edge of black holes, if the event horizon intersects and antimatter/matter pair in the quantum foam stripping off one or the other into the singularity before they have a chance to annihilate, with its partner escaping into the accretion disc)

From your link;

“All of our observations find a complete symmetry between matter and antimatter, which is why the universe should not actually exist,” Christian Smorra, the study’s lead author, said in a statement. “An asymmetry must exist here somewhere but we simply do not understand where the difference is. What is the source of the symmetry break?”

Ask your preacher.

He has all the answers.
