This will affect 420,000 federal workers and puts in motion his statements that he will withhold their pay.

Also, cancelled a previously agreed on 2 per cent raise for federal workers.

I hate this so much. I thought Individual 1 claimed the economy is great. Why is he doing this to us? I know he cares about only those who sing him praises, but there are some of his loony fans in the fed, too!

When Obama did it, it sucked, but at least he was working to dig us out of the mess GWB made of the economy.

What I1 is doing makes exactly no sense.

Obama did it for the same reason Trump is. Politics. Just like I noted that corporations no longer care about the workers, only their stock prices, politicians have long forgotten the people.

Taking measures for pushing for approval for funding the building of a wall is hardly forgetting "the people".

tRump has to be seen as "strong" and a "winner" to his hate radio base.

They've been told to hate govt workers.

This will go over well with them.

Check in on this thread from time to time to confirm what I've posted here.

Minor quibble - I assume the 420K are the number of furloughed employees...a pay freeze would affect all 2M+ Federal employees

Private sector here. Got a nice 6% pay increase to my already 6 figures salary. LOL

I firmly believe that the public sector ought to be following the same rules as the private sector. If the company can't afford to give you a pay increase, then you shouldn't get a pay increase. If Mexico won't pay for the wall, then federal workers shouldn't get a pay increase because we all know eventually Trump will get his wall and make American taxpayers pay for it.

The 2.1% raise wasn't so much "agreed on" as it was an automatic raise that would have taken effect based on the Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act of 1990 (FEPCA), which would have also raised locality pay by 25%. Due to the cost of its implementation, the FEPCA raises have been overridden every year, either by the President (via the President's budget proposals and executive orders) or Congress (who have the last word on the matter, if they choose to exercise that power).

The Senate had backed a 1.9% percent pay raise for 2019, while the House had remained silent on the issue leading up to the current budget negotiations. With the budgetary issues unresolved to this point, the President went ahead with his plan (previously indicated in the President's Budget in the spring and formally announced in August) to freeze federal civilian pay.

Those people who will not get checks are not responsible for politicians being unable to agree to things. They are bystanders to the process. Trump in his small mind see's them all as being against him. That is a warped view. Is he not the president of everyone?
