This is such a sad story. And it wont get better until both Mexico and the USA end their war on drugs.

I love going to Mexico. I love their food, culture and the people are very nice. Unfortunately, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for this disaster because politicians support the war on drugs.

Stories like those explain why most victims of extortion don’t bother to report these crimes to the police. After all, many police officers are on the cartels’ payroll, either as informants or in some cases actively
participating in organized crime. As a result, Mexico is in a position where the rule of law truly doesn’t exist. If that sounds inflammatory, take note of a study conducted by the Monterrey Institute of Technology. It found that 98.5% of all crime in Mexico in 2010 went unpunished.

Legalizing marijuana would bring in billions in state and federal taxes. Plus it would save billions on prison spending and prosecution because it wouldn't be illegal. It would put some gangs and cartels out of business.

In our society money is power, destroy the sources of money, you destroy the power. Simple.

Too many politicians are on the payrolls of the cartels. They go away so does the money.

No, you have it backwards. You destroy the cartels source of money, they can no longer bankroll politicians.

The cartels will just move to new drugs. They are now shipping Meth and heroin up to the US.

They've already been doing that for decades, it's not a new development.

The only light at the end of the tunnel would be if we stopped the war and drugs and decriminalized personal drug use. But Mexico so dependent on the illegal drug profits their economy would crash.
