"You don't need the means to take on a group of 50 people in order to protect yourself." Unless you are protecting yourself from a group of fifty criminals, ie a government act of aggression upon you by one of the numerous thug agencies, or perhaps a large group of authoritarian "leftists" who want to impose their will upon you...
I have no reason to lie to you, my husband is not licensed and sold at the Reno gun shows until 2015. He did not sell firearms but I asked him if he had personal knowledge of unlicensed dealers selling guns at the shows and he said "of course, it happens all the time, if you have a Nevada driver's license it's considered a personal transaction and doesn't require a background check" He has no reason to lie, he's not vested in these forums and he thinks I'm stupid for posting in them, he's a decorated Vietnam Vet USMC. By the way we just got back from BJ's - free lunch and beer for vets this year
Oh I don't figger your lieing but do know for a fact that vendor space for firearm transactions at gun shows here requires an FFL. People can and do sell and buy between each other which is legal, but NV has enacted the private sale BC law. For all the good it does. They can't enforce it.
As to playnig on these forums t's harmless enough. I like it because you can interact with people that have different views and opinions. If the latter just makes you cringe or trips the anger switch you can just leave or hit the ignore feature and be on your merry. Yet still be richer for the experience having interacted. Call it a safe space f you will. You can also rant and vent and just get crap off your chest with no harm done.
I think more guns, in more people’s hands, equals more gun violence. Of course there are those that think more guns, in more people’s hands, means less gun violence. An interesting theory.
Since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, the U.S. has seen 1,518 acts of gun violence in which at least four people were wounded or killed
"Specious"? Fact, murderers, thieves, thugs will be murderers, thieves, and thugs regardless of the existence of any government influence or guns.
Violence is the result of people believing that they have a right to initiate force upon others. Since most people believe that they have a right to initiate force upon others to get what they want either directly or indirectly through government goons, violence and murder will remain a permanent "virtue" of our society.
Ban all guns. The government will still have them to coerce/murder/threaten their subject/slaves, er "citizens". The criminals will still get them because, uh, criminals don't follow laws . And the subject/slaves will be simply left with no way of self-defense from government goons/criminals.
The only way to reduce violence and the initiations of force upon others is to change the beliefs of the people to reject all forms of aggression, be it by criminal government or criminal individuals. Alas, our entire society is based entirely upon the false belief that some have the "right" to initiate force upon others to get what they want. Guns really are a secondary issue, violence, is the result of an immoral belief system not the tools used by those who use aggression/government to get what they want from others.
Even in a fairy tale dream where metal tubes ceased to exist from the universe, statists/criminals would still be running around making bombs, bludgeoning people with bricks, and stabbing everyone to get what they want from others. Those who believe they have a right to impose their will upon others will do so with whatever is available to them. Ban guns, increase bombs. (and bombs are far cheaper and far more available with a little thought) Difference? None.
Animals are animals. "Democracy" is the supposed justification of aggression by some upon others. "Government" is nothing but a nicer-sounding description of a monopoly on the "right" to use aggression upon its victims to impose the will of those in control of it. It, government, is in reality, an institution of aggression, a criminal syndicate. When those who believe individual people should not have guns get the government to get rid of their guns, they may have a little bit of credibility. Even then, they will have to make the argument that normal people should not be able to defend themselves from general criminals.
I have never seen a truly legitimate argument against the natural right to self-defense by an individual against any aggressor.
Live and let live. (and allow others to defend themselves from those who refuse to live and let live)
Personally, the biggest 'problem' that I have with these types of arguments is they often use the same level of thinking to attempt to solve problems as the one used to create the problems in the first place.
How can one expect an evolution of sorts to take place, if one is using the same level of thinking that created the situation &/or circumstances?
Make the punishment for “beyond a shadow of a doubt conviction” for any violent crime, with or without a gun, fit the crime. More of an Old Time “Eye for an Eye” approach!
A criminal “rights” should never be considered more important than the victims.
Having to consider an appropriate "unpleasant punishment" may just make them reconsider the crime.
If someone has decided to commit a crime, they will do so with whatever method or tools that are available.
And lastly, STOP MAKING THEM FAMOUS, no movie deals and no book deals. Criminals should not be allowed to profit from criminal actions.
How about people properly raising their kids? And stop taking the easy way out by drugging them.
