"An unprecedented analysis by the Tribune reveals that for years the county's property tax system created an unequal burden on residents, handing huge financial breaks to homeowners who are well off while punishing those who have the least. The problem lies with the fundamentally flawed way the county assessor's office values property. On March 5, those taxpayers can express what they think of the Democratic regime at the County Building. Early voting begins for the March 20 Illinois primary."

Berrios and the Chicago Democratic machine is corrupt, but Republicans are not better, look at Trump.

Trump isn’t a true republican even though he ran on the ticket, but yes the gop isn’t much better. I swear we have a one party system. The dems and gop just take turns being in charge. Both claim to support and want to bring relief to the middle class...and yet we get screwed by both parties.

How? The Dems have almost single handedly destroyed this state over the past 15 years. They have turned government into a quality of life problem for the people of Illinois. I'll take the worst republican over the criminals and mental case democrats that run this state.

Seeing the people of Illinois continually reelect these scum is like seeing a battered woman keep going back to the boyfriend that beat her.

"This time they've changed; They reformed and are going to help the workers and middle class" when you know they will just beat them down even worse the next time.

There are Republicans who have ruined states (like Brownback in Kansas), but far more Democrats are responsible for the downfall of cities and states. And even if they aren't responsible for the downfall, their actions after the fact are poor.

Brownback hasn't caused near as much irreversible damage as Dems in Illinois have with constitutionally mandated fiscally unsustainable pensions that weren't even funded.

Also at least Brownback was trying to reduce the tax burden on taxpayers and businesses which is an admirable motive. The Dems turned govt in Illinois into a self serving corrupt farce that taxes people out of their homes.

Illinois’ sorry state is a bipartisan creation. Yes, Democrats in the legislature have contributed quite a bit, but remember that Illinois had Republican governors for 25 straight years (and for many of those years, a GOP-controlled Senate) before Blagojevich was elected. Everyone kicked the can down the road, whether it was Jim Edgar signing the pension ramp bill in the 90s, George Ryan’s lavish early retirement program, Blago’s pension holidays or the budget crisis under Rauner’s watch. There are many other examples. This didn’t happen overnight (or just in the past 15 years).

And regarding Cook County, I wouldn’t focus on party label. Think establishment (Berrios) vs. independent/reform. Berrios has a good government-type primary challenger. Looks like he may have a shot. We’ll just have to wait and see.

No sorry the Dems have had complete power for 15 years and pretty significant power before then as they do now. This train wreck is on them. Just like Conneticut, Just like California, Just like NJ (Christie only managed to roadblock Dems from making things worse at the state level).
